My 6 yo loves dirt bikes. Like, he's been obsessed since he was 6 months old. I'm not kidding. He now has his own KTM mini adventure so how could he not read about more two-wheeled vehicles, right? At least he's reading, sigh! Funny thing is he'll ask me to skip the moped pages, Lol!
My boys received two of these books a year ago as a birthday gift, and now we own them all! They are in our nightly reading rotation of books. Very informative, and the pictures are great! They even offer a bonus of stickers on the first page!
Great book for children!
This book is great for kids who love motorcycles. Lots of action shots and STICKERS!! Need I say more? It is pretty simple but perfect for my 2 year old and probably even kids a few years older.
Worth the price; however did not keep the attention of our 2 yr old. Our son has a motorcycle, and our grandson loves motorcycle everything. The book was just okay for us.
My four-year old wants this book read every night at bedtime...

OK, just received it yesterday. Probably my error, but there is not a single photo of any recipe! I dislike that very much. There is not one thing inspiring about cooking something that does not have a photo. They could be great recipes, but not sure how many I will bother with. Sad. If you like food photos, don't waste your money.
I recently started having health problems involving my G.I. tract that the doctors can't quite figure out; all testing has come back clean, even for Celiac, but eating gluten free seems to help ease my excruciating pain so I decided to order this book to help me learn a whole new way of cooking/ living..I just got it not long ago, so I've only made/ tried a few recipes so far but they're really yummy. The instructions are ready to understand and it makes it easy to know what ingredients you'll need and the time it'll take.I highly recommend!
Gluten-free can be daunting and discouraging. So much of what we have been used to is now off limits and label reading is essential.. Not only food, but shampoos, lotions, makeup, and even medications may contain gluten. This book provides guidelines for those who are struggling with the diet. If you like to bake, gluten free is especially challenging and expensive. I have virtually given it up. This book isn't quite a primer on GF baking and I wouldn't make some of the recipes but, still, it's a good reference.
Gifted this to someone recently diagnosed with Celiac disease -- they really appreciated the ease of the recipes included while figuring out how to shift their lifestyle.
This book has a lot of good recipes I would have not known you good most of these. I can't wait to try some out.

About the Author
Mercer Mayer began writing and illustrating children's books in 1966, and since that time, he has published over 300 titles. Open almost any of the award-winning author/illustrator's books, and out may pop dragons, cuddly monsters, wonderful creatures, and endearing critters."Most of my books are about things that happened to me when I was a little kid," says Mercer. I use this well-"written" book in speech and language intervention--assessment and treatment. The monochromatic illustrations are excellent, bringing to life the very funny story. Wordless books in general are great for language therapy, because the child is able to practice generating a narrative, with visual support. This one in particular is useful, because the story is tight and unambiguous. I highly recommend all of the Boy/Dog/Frog series, especially this one and "A Boy, a Dog, a Frog, and a Friend."

Dianne Lake was 14 when she joined Charles Manson's Family. She was there because her mixed up parents decided they didn't have to take care of her anymore. That's why I say she's a victim.You want to reach through the book and shake her mom and dad until their teeth rattle. What in hell were they thinking?!But ultimately she's a victor. She got mental health help, testified against the murdering Charlie and his Family. She got an education, married happily, had kids, and created her own--real--family.Her feelings and adult analysis of how Charlie manipulated people are really interesting. As she looks back, she connects the dots. What she just accepted as Charlie's fiats back then, she now realizes were part of his plan for control and success. The specifics of how he got the Family and outsiders to do his bidding is fascinating.The book is well written and talks about aspects of Manson and his crew that other books don't cover. Whether you're interested in Manson, true crime, or biographies of people who successfully overcome the odds, it's a great read.
Overall this is probably the best memoir written by any of the former members of the Manson Family (Susan Atkins wrote a bunch, but they all feel like attempts to excuse herself, as does Tex Watkins's book). To her credit Lake admits at the beginning that many of these events took place 50 years ago and there are simply things she cannot remember, and that she is presenting things from her perspective. The only reason I'm giving this four stars instead of five is because it feels as if there is a crucial chapter missing between when she testifies against Manson et all in the first trial and the epilogue. I found myself wondering if anyone from the Family ever tried to contact her after 1978 (she mentions one pseudo-reporter finding her), and what her thoughts about these people -- in particular the girls whom she refers to at one point as her friends, lovers, and family -- after all of these years. I understand why she may not have wanted to write more about her husband and children, but -- particularly since the parole board recently voted to grant Leslie Van Houtten (whom Lake doesn't seem to have had liked much) parole -- I felt this was really needed. One (probably unintended) audience I think this book might resonate with would be girls in the 14-16 age range who might be struggling to connect with their family.
I don't want this book to end. Fascinating. I was a pseudo-hippie in the 70's - I remember this all. The author has written an interesting birds eye view of what it was like living with Charles Manson. I often thought briefly of heading toward a racier life than I actually did - so glad I did not. I chose working for a living in corporate America; I could have landed in a similar situation with the wrong guidance. Thank God Dianne you made it out in one piece. My interest in this book stems from my readings of Alice Miller’s early work and like many people, I’ve read "Helter Skelter". The curiosity of how a ‘Charles Manson’ could be created and how he could get so many followers has been an ongoing question since those horrible murders 50 years ago. Having viewed the PBS, “Summer of Love†documentary and seeing Netflix’s, “Mindhunterâ€, (which is a great book also), one significant key lies within this highly introspective account.In the PBS show, one point made is that the Haight-Ashbury District was teeming with young kids on their own. In light of current sex abuse scandals & the high incidence of pedophilia, I wondered how many of those vulnerable kids were escaping molesting environments and dysfunctional homes. Turns out my suspicions were correct with this history; Dianne Lane provides a very personal recollection of being a 14 year-old in 1967, in the LA and San Francisco area. Dianne’s heartbreaking family experience and her courageous portrayal sheds light on how kids need safe structure in their lives. Neither she or Manson had healthy upbringings and they intertwined in a perfect storm of deadly chaos. (At the very least known, Manson was burdened with abandonment, uprooting and deep shame at age 4 or 5 with his teenage mother’s imprisonment. He was sent into the Catholic school system thereafter.)Dianne is the narrator of her own account and she has a pleasing voice; she speaks clearly and the book is written with great focus and care. She shares the thoughts of a normal, young teen trying to navigate life with normal, early teenage drives and needs. Unfortunately, she was let down by the adults who surrounded her. I hope the insight in these books & programs available to the public, along with the daily increasing voices of women & men who’ve survived sexual abuse will make great change in how children are treated. We need to make less predators and we need to make less vulnerable kids. I believe it takes great courage to expose a personal history like this; I hope it makes a lasting imprint into our culture. I highly recommend this book to all parents, all adults and all abuse survivors. I deeply thank Dianne Lane for sharing her life.

It delicately reminds us of the challenges polar bears face everyday due to global warming. It also includes a section with more polar bear facts for the more experienced, inquisitive reader.

Sea Bear is a delightful tale describing a mother polar bear's instinctual rhythms that guide her through the peril of seasons. The author draws the reader in with lovely, easy to read-aloud language with pinches of alliteration, adding interest for even the earliest of listeners. And can I talk about the illustrations! They are realistic, yet whimsical, truly inviting the reader on the journey. My favorite is mid-story with a giant whale depicted deep below the surface of the water where the bear is paddling. I also love the illustrated mirroring of the vast depth of the sea and the vast height of the night skies, adorned with northern lights. Complete eye candy. This is a five star gem that belongs in every home library! I hope you get the chance to enjoy it!

We see the life of a polar bear through the seasons and catch a glimpse into the generations before and after her. The book gently shows the reader why sea ice matters so much to polar bears. Though a tale filled with ice, SEA BEAR is told with warmth and is a stunning portrait of the interconnectedness of life.
Having had the opportunity to see a pre-publication dummy of this book, I knew how beautiful the finished product could be. I was not disappointed. Moore's storytelling is grounded in fact, yet lyrical in execution. And the illustrations? Pure magic. Highly recommended.

It is a story which is so complex and convoluted that it takes a historian to even begin to do it justice. Fortunately, this book's author is not only an accomplished historian, well versed in his subject, but also a gifted writer. The result is a remarkable book about an almost indescribable and incomprehensible period in the world's history.So, if you've ever wondered about the hyperinflation in Germany following the Great War (WWI), and by extension what the REAL consequences of inflation, hyperinflation, deflation and depression might be, this is the book you've been looking for. In fact, I've only read one other book which even comes close; that being `The Fiat Money Inflation in France: How It Came, What it Brought, and How It Ended' by Andrew Dickson White. But this book is much more timely, much broader in scope, much more comprehensive, and much easier to relate to our more modern times.In it, you'll learn a lot and find the answers to many puzzling questions. Among them: what caused the inflation, what were its impacts, and why it was allowed to continue; which groups and social classes fared the best, which the worst, and why; how the inflation resulted in the redistribution of wealth; what happened to landlords, shop owners, government employees, members of unions, free workers, and pensioners, as well as the middle-class; what the man or woman on the street had to do simply to survive; who prospered, who lost everything, and why; what the government did and didn't do and what the impacts were on people at all social levels, and on industry; how the hyperinflation was finally ended, why the resulting deflation and depression was worse in many ways, and why; and what those living through the deflation/depression period had then to do in order to survive and, in some cases, prosper.There is also much anecdotal evidence as to just how much misery both inflation and deflation can cause. For example: the well dressed elderly man who couldn't afford two cents (American money) for a bag of apples; the little old lady who supported herself by selling her crucifix chain one tiny gold link at a tme; the foreign students who bought rows of houses out of their allowance; the substitution of paste-board coffins for wooden ones; the life insurance policies that eventually were worth less than their annual premiums; the banks that did away with smaller savings accounts because the paper required to book them was worth more that the money in the accounts; the man who said it was better to have a prostitute in the house than the corpse of a dead baby; the beggars who, in October 1923, purportedly wouldn't accept anything smaller than a one million mark note; and finally, that even with the first "billiard" [a thousand million million] and five billiard notes being printed in November 1923, people still clamored for more.Apart from the Weimar Republic: This book is essentially a case study in inflation and its aftermath which should be of interest to anyone contemplating or concerned about the current state of America's, and the world's economic future, and the direction America is headed. In reading it, it is well to keep in mind what Gunter Schmolders articulates (pg. 248), "With inflation alone can a government extinguish debt without repayment, or wage war and engage in other non-productive activities on a large scale: it is still not recognized as a tax by the tax-payer."In any event, if you do read this book, and if you are anything like me: You'll likely conclude, as I did, that everyone talks about inflation, but no one, especially the politicians who cause it, really knows what they are dealing with or what the consequences may be.

This book’s strength is the details of how hyperinflation impacted everyday life for citizens of post-WWI Germany. It’s weakness is that it doesn’t offer much background and context - the reader is expected to already have considerable knowledge about the Weimar Republic, how it came to be, what was going on politically in it and around it, and where it was headed. This is not an introductory text.The frequent mentions of how far the mark had fallen against the dollar and the pound at various points in time are important for the historical record, but feel repetitive as a reader. The author spends about every third page throwing out lists of numbers that eventually become so large as to be meaningless.
I got this book in October 2010 based on a recommendation from either BullionVault.com or another website devoted to providing a dissenting view to mainstream economics. It was first published in 1975, just four years after the Nixon administration had severed the last tie between gold and the U.S. dollar by closing the international “gold window†and terminating the right of foreign governments to exchange dollars for gold. At that time the prospect of an American hyperinflation seemed far off, even as inflation was rising fast, and those scratchy old silent-film clips of forlorn Germans pushing wheelbarrowfuls of banknotes to the bakery to buy bread were quaint and unreal-looking.As I type these words the price of gold is US$1,818 per ounce, an increase of 4400% since 1971, and last week Switzerland, long a bastion of monetary probity, gave up on maintaining the value of its franc and pegged it instead to the moribund Euro, joining the other major currencies in a death-spiral of competitive devaluation. For those aware of what hyperinflation is, the possibility of experiencing it for ourselves is becoming ever more plausible and imminent. Adam Fergusson’s book gives a detailed picture of how hyperinflation—the death of a paper currency—played out in a modern industrial economy in the 1920s. It’s not a pretty sight.I never knew much about the Weimar hyperinflation, but assumed that it had something to do with the payment of war reparations imposed on Germany by the Treaty of Versailles. And while Fergusson’s topic is not really the cause of the hyperinflation, he does eventually come out and say that war reparations probably had nothing to do with it. Instead we see a fledgling republic facing severe social and economic problems, but whose leadership throughout remains stubbornly timid and ignorant. The leaders of both the government and its central bank, as well as newspaper editors and other leaders of opinion, were almost unanimous in asserting that the inflation had nothing to do with the runaway printing of banknotes, which they saw as an effect rather than as a cause of rocketing prices.Hyperinflation inflicts severe suffering on almost everyone except those able to profit by making bets on the collapse of the currency. The suffering, though, is very unequally distributed, and the injustice of the whole process is one of its most striking features. With a whole generation of children malnourished, women selling their bodies for a pork chop, and retired civil servants dropping dead on the street from hunger and cold, you also have farmers hoarding bumper crops, unwilling to sell for worthless paper money, and industrialists in a frenzy of factory-building to make use of cheap credit. Some of the best parts of the book are extracts from the journals and letters of housewives describing what they see around them. They witness mob violence and exchange their pianos for potatoes.In other ways though I found the book to be a dry read, and I felt that it was really addressed to people who were already students of this period of German history and had a grasp of the people and events of that time. The author assumes a knowledge of the time and place that in my case was lacking, which made the reading tougher going. I also found that his style lacked fluency, which made things harder as well. A sentence taken at random: “The uncertainties to which these postponements gave rise in large measure accounted for the wild fluctuations of the mark during the year.†Another writer would have put this is a more readable way.All of that said, this book was for me very readable because of its relevance to the events unfolding around me in the world. The enormous federal budget deficits in the United States are starting to look like the Weimar deficits, and although printing presses are no longer used to create money, dollars are being created by the trillion—a figure that became familiar in Germany in the early 1920s. When I go shopping I’m struck by how much less my money buys than even a year ago, and I fully expect that prices will only accelerate upward from here.But does that mean we’re headed for actual hyperinflation? According to writers like James Turk of GoldMoney.com and John Williams of ShadowStats.com, yes we are. Williams, a longtime statistician with the U.S. federal government, thinks it will be in the next year or two.But are our governments as timid or as deep in denial as the Weimar republic? I’ll leave that question with you. Another thing I’ll leave with you is a favorite quote from another writer, Henry Hazlitt, an American journalist on economics and finance. In 1946 he wrote these words: "Inflation discourages all prudence and thrift. It encourages squandering, gambling, reckless waste of all kinds. It often makes it more profitable to speculate than to produce. It tears apart the whole fabric of stable economic relationships. Its inexcusable injustices drive men toward desperate remedies. It plants the seeds of fascism and communism. It leads men to demand totalitarian controls. It ends invariably in bitter disillusion and collapse."If you’re looking for a refutation of Hazlitt’s points, you won’t find it in When Money Dies.
