Alison Ford is an Associate Professor of Special Education at Syracuse University. She works collaboratively with the Syracuse City School District to prepare teachers, develop curricula, and design program models. Her recent work has focused on the development of community-referenced curricula and strategies for teaching students with severe disabilities in the life of the school. Roberta Schnorr is a doctoral student in the Division of Special Education and Rehabilitation at Syracuse University. She has served as the coordinator of the Syracuse Curriculum Project at the University, working directly with a number of school districts involved in curriculum development efforts for students with severe disabilities. She has had extensive experience as a special education teacher. Luanna H. Meyer, Ph.D., is Pro Vice-Chancellor at Massey University College of Education in New Zealand. Luanna H. Meyer's research has focused on inclusion, cooperative classroom management, challenging behavior, and multicultural education; she has authored more than 200 books, research articles, and book chapters. In her previous position as Professor of Education at Syracuse University, she also directed the Inclusive Elementary and Special Education Program. The work in her chapter for this book was supported by and carried out while she was Director of the Consortium for Collaborative Research on Social Relationships of Children and Youth with Diverse Abilities and the New York Partnership for Statewide Systems Change at Syracuse University. Linda Davern, M.S., is a doctoral student in the Division of Special Education and Rehabilitation at Syracuse University. Her past positions include that of research assistant with the Syracuse Curriculum Project, public school teacher, and adult service worker. Her primary research interest is focused on integration efforts in public schools. Jim Black, M.S., is a Training Specialist in the Syracuse City School District, where he is involved in developing curriculum and instructional practices that prepare students with disabilities for active participation within integrated school and community environments. He is currently the president the Finger Lakes Chapter of the Association for Persons with Severe Handicaps. He is also a doctoral student at Syracuse University where his research has focused on issues such as the social validity of work performed by persons with severe multiple handicaps and paraprofessional training. Patrick Dempsey, M.S., is a Supervisor of Special Education in the Syracuse City School District, where he assumes responsibility for the education of more than 2,000 students with disabilities. I teach pre-service teachers in the special education field. This book is old, but it's the best curriculum (really the only curriculum) I've found that teachers (OR PARENTS) can simply pick-up and immediately begin using for individuals with moderate to severe needs. It's simple, easy to use, follow, and understand, and includes examples, ideas, assessments, and IEP resources for curriculum (AND SKILL) development. It's an absolute must for your resource library and a wonderful supplement for general education teachers (AND PARENTS) who need to modify the curriculum (or teach their child) to be as independent as possible and successfully included.
This was assigned in a graduate level course but I cannot express how useful it has become in practice. I love the life skill themed curriculum that is expressed here, from useful money skills, reading skills, time skills, learning household tasks and more. It is easy to use, and can be helpful when writing IEP goals.

This book is packed with detailed (research proven) notes on tons of cut flowers. It is an amazing reference book for cut flower growers and I wish I had purchased it when I first started growing on my urban flower farm. Don't think of it like a normal read though, it is a thick encyclopedia of cut flowers (best germinatuon, harvest, storing, planting techniques for each variety). I took off a star for the super lame damage to my book. I bought it new, but someone crammed it in the packing sleeve and bent the front corner. I also took a picture of the sloppy binding job. If I purchase something new then I expect better quality upon arrival. For shame Amazon.
Excellent info, but only reason for only 3 stars is that the paperback version is soooo much smaller font than I thought. Can I exchange it for a larger version? Maybe a hard copy would be easier to read font size.

Easy read and nicely illustrated with simple drawings to explain many of the finer (and confusing) points of cricket. Over the years I've had a number of my English friends try to explain the game of cricket to me, but all in vain. Invariably it ended in complete confusion. However, having read and studied this little book, the curtain has lifted on some of confusion just a bit. Yet, though reasonably enlightened, I think the real problem lies in the fact that the game of cricket was never meant to be understood fully by the American psyche. It's totally British and can only be fully understood and appreciated by those raised with a sense of the game's history and traditions.Nonetheless, this is a fine little book and one which will certainly give you a better understanding of this most English of games---cricket!
Great book. Quick read with a thorough explanation of the game. As someone who knew almost nothing about cricket before reading this book, I feel as if I could now watch a cricket match and understand most of what is happening. One important thing this book does is avoid getting too technical. Yes, it explains what many of the common terms mean, but it avoids going too in depth into statistics and strategy that would lose many readers unfamiliar with the game. If you know very little about cricket and want to better understand the game, this quick read is the book for you.
For a quick reference guide, one can hardly do better. There is not an overwhelming amount of depth to the book, but as a 'now what exactly was that bit again' kind of work, it's brilliant. The author has a nice, light tone but still manages to make cricket really approachable, even for someone who either doesn't know or even doesn't want to know about cricket.
I am a newby to cricket and was having a hard time finding any books on the rules of cricket, this book is perfect. I appreciate that it is not highbrow nor do they talk down to the reader. This is a very readable book. As an explanation of cricket it goes a long way toward explaining how an apparently boring game can possibly become interesting. After reading I was motivated to find a cricket match on YouTube. The explanations were very helpful but I still find the game, the commentary and the very long times of inaction baffling.

As an American wanting to better understand the game of cricket, this book was invaluable. With so many Cricket Clubs in the Philadelphia area (they're now really just country clubs) it is sad they cricket is no longer played on a regular basis. Haverford and Pennsylvania used to be the two cricket powerhouses of American collegiate cricket, nowadays not so much.

I am a second year medical student in California. I have recently boarded the struggle bus that is neuroanatomy. I have never taken neuroanatomy prior to medical school, and to say its overwhelming is an understatement. Another note - I own the Haines Atlas(9th E), this text, FA, and Firecracker. Professional students have a limited budget and need to find the most high yield resources. This is the one.I never usually buy textbooks because they suck. This is the anti-textbook. It actually is designed to be read, in order, and it is engaging, relevant, and interesting. The pictures are bomb. It constantly checks your understanding, references other section of the text (THAT MAKE SENSE AND ARE RELEVANT), and everything is clinically relevant. Finally, a book written by a clinician for clinicians, not researchers or academics. Purchase it. Read it. See how it effortlessly owns all other texts and actually pushes you to GET neuroanatomy to HELP PATIENTS, not uselessly memorize that the trigeminal system has 4 nuclei, or that there are 5 descending motor tracts, or remember some research extraneous bullcrap that fills the volume of much of our medical textbooks.Dr. Blumenfeld, if you are listening, can you make a trip to California to school your colleagues about how to write clinically oriented organ systems based texts and teaching materials?
Book is very well written, easy to follow, very clinically oriented as the title suggests. It does not have the details of a full neuroscience textbook the way the Purves or Kandel books do. As a medical student you need the more detailed neuroscience part also. Still, this is the 'go to' book for clinical explanations in neurology/neuroanatomy. What I don't like about this book has to do with the publisher, not the book: After paying over a hundred Dollars for the book you only get two years of online access, after that they want you to pay an extra $30 for additional two year access, seems like a rip off.
Great text to accompany the medical school Neurology block - although I would caution against reading the chapters word-for-word as it can be time-consuming and ultimately provide much more info than is necessary. I referenced this book whenever a concept or term came up in my studies that my lecture notes or a simple google search were unable to fully answer. Each chapter also includes practice clinical vignettes and questions that I frequently used to test my knowledge of the concepts.
This is such a great book; if you are thinking about it, just go ahead and buy it already. The case reviews are awesome; helps the material stick. Graphics are good quality and helpful. It was super helpful in residency, I still use it now. Great refresher on anatomy.
A good resource for medical school neuroanatomy. My school recommends the Nolte textbook, which is also good, but has limited clinical associations. For me, tying anatomy and physiology into clinical scenarios is super important in learning the material. Blumenfield's clinical concepts and cases for each chapter really hit on the relevance of each part of neuroanatomy in a memorable fashion. My point of concern is the length of chapters can be daunting, especially during medical school, so unless you thoroughly enjoy reading textbooks like me, it may be difficult to balance lectures, assigned reading, and supplemental reading from this text.
This is an awesome book. I have read about half of it and don't have much time to read the other half right now. I cannot wait to finish it. I know i will have this at my side long after i finish it as it is a great reference

Great book for learning and understanding neuroanatomy. Teaches (as the title suggests) through clinical cases in order to illustrate the concepts. Neurology is all about localizing the lesion, and this is a great book to learn how to do just that.

When I first heard about this book coming out, I got very excited. I first saw Back to the Future in the local theater when I was 9 years old, and since then, I have been a huge fan. Over the years, I have gotten the various behind-the-scenes books, and incarnations of the movies. I now have them on Blu-ray and have about 10 various DeLorean time machine models.I received the book via UPS yesterday afternoon and started reading it right away. By the time I realized it, it was 3 AM. It's an excellent book and delves into many known and unknown facts, which I appreciate greatly. Gaines has tapped into the BTTF universe and I highly recommend this book to any true fan.
As one of many big fans of the Back to the Future: The Complete Adventures - Limited Edition , I knew I had to get this book and read all about the behind the scene situations in relation to this series of movies. Its a quick read for the most part surprisingly with it going in chronological order in the history of how things happened during the making of and filming of each of the movies of the iconic trilogy.The author went through various interviews, research sessions and data collecting to get every bit of information he could on all the subjects that are related to the trilogy. The technology, the actors, the movie studio (Universal), the Delorean, Hoverboards and all the people who were involved with its creation. (Most notably Director, Robert Zemekis and writer, Bob Gale.)And it does a good job of trying to fill in those little extras that are mentioned in commentaries and are just well known by now by fans of the now over 30 year series that started way back in 1985 as a script that no studio wanted any part of.The book is very heavily focused on the first film of the series that started it all, Back to the Future. With Part II getting less focus and Part III almost nothing at all. That is probably the biggest problem with the book itself. Also a bit of a problem is, there really isn't that much to talk about in relation to the series of films and the related that isn't already well known, especially with the sequels. The first movie is so iconic and everything that went behind the scenes in relation to it is actually quite interesting. But again any true Back to the Future fan should know most of these stories.For instance how Eric Stoltz was the original Marty McFly and only later did Michael J. Fox (MJF) become available to do the movie, even after filming started. And the book focuses a lot on the situation involving the replacement of said actor. As that probably is the biggest story line of the first movie, as how many movies start filming weeks in and decide they don't like the lead actor and have to replace him and do it all over again? And it really delves into everything in relation to the first movie. A lot of MJF facts without actually getting much from MJF himself which was odd. The book seemed very Lea Thompson quote filled but not much with the star himself. But at least you do get your fill of stories and knowledge when it comes to the movie that started it all. You will definitely feel like you have taken a trip from the start of the movie's creation to its conclusion. Focusing on the stars, vehicles, people behind the camera, how the movie did, the effect it had, the filming of. Everything is there and in great details.But when we get to Part II and beyond it becomes more brief and choppy. The book will focus on Back to the Future Part II in the later part of it, and the main focus, (as again any true fan of the trilogy should know) is the fact that Crispin Glover, who played George McFly from the first movie wouldn't come back due to a disagreement between he and the powers that be. (The actual reason still in dispute with both parties blaming the other over why he didn't come back even after this books tries to delve into it) As well as the bitterness of Jefferey Weissman who played the part of George in the movies as a replacement and his role being heavily reduced due to their trying to cover up the fact that its not Crispin Glover. And of course a lot on the hoverboard focus and how they did those effects using 1989 limitations (including an injury with a stuntwoman during one of the hoverboard scenes).As the book comes to an end they throw in a quick chapter on Back to the Future Part III and it doesn't really focus around much. It has mentions of Mary Steenburgen and talks about the marketing behind not just the third movie but all the movies, which was odd to be talking about suddenly instead of the third movie itself. But that's really it. I was actually quite disappointed as we learn so much about the first movie and get some interesting information in relation to the second but then the third movie is like the forgotten child that we have to be nice to and make mentions of but not really delve into it as if there was nothing important to say on it.So that's why this book is far from the most informative and must have book when in relation to the movie. You learn more about things from the bonus discs of the film itself and the commentary then you do here with a lot of the interesting facts in relation to the trilogy. The first movie he probably goes on for a bit too much talking about details that didn't matter then he gets to the other films and he doesn't give it that same in depth focus that one would like after reading all we did about the first movie as we are going through the book.But what this book will do well is teach those who are either new to the trilogy or not the die hard fans who know all about the little details that this book talks about and will be learning about for the first time as they read it. This came off great for that purpose. I again wish he focused more on the sequels, cartoon series, ride and video game then he does here. He makes mentions of all but it seemed like as the book went on he talked less and less about things in the same great detail as when he started.Still was a worthwhile read and a nice attempt to get it all into one book. But its far from the most complete or informative book that could have and should have been made here. This is heavy.(I would give it 3 1/2 out of 5 if we could do half stars here as its close but not quite there as it should have been.)
There was not enough new, never-before- known information in this book. The first 60 pages are okay. A few things are interesting, such as what the studio bosses wanted changed, what the first draft was like, and what a pain Crispen Glover was. But after that the book seems padded. There was a healthy section on a stunt that badly injured a stunt woman. I felt bad for her, but this story was so long that I skipped over much of it. The parts on 2 and 3 were not all that interesting. If you are 14 years old and have just watched the movie for the first time, maybe you'd find this book interesting. I've had 33 years to hear most of the stories that are in this book, so I regret the purchase.
As a huge BTTF fan I didnt know what to expect going in and what new stories I could possible find out. Having said that, I started the book and blew through it within a week because its an easy read but also I couldn;t wait to read what was coming next. Caseen really puts you in the era and its like you are in the room of when the action is taking place. Did I read some stories I read before? Yea but I also found out some new ones! This book isnt proclaiming it to be brand new never before heard stuff, but its a fun read that takes you back and gives you some insight to how the movies were made and its only like 10 bucks! I cant NOT recommend this. GET IT before time runs out!
This was a fascinating look behind-the-scenes at the making of the Back To The Future trilogy. The book contains little-known facts about the casting (and miscasting) of the films as well as insights into the development of the stories and what it took to bring them to life. My only quibble about the book is that it spends more time than I would have liked discussing the impact of the films on the global culture and on events that have occurred around the world over the last thirty years, probably at the expense of more details about the movies themselves. Still, I highly recommend it for fans of the films.

It's an amazingly engaging read, discussing elements well known as the hiring and firing of Eric Stolz in the lead role, as well as items not well known such as a horrifying hoverboard stunt gone wrong in Back to the Future Part II. This book is well written but too academic for me. I was expecting a bit more of a narrative of the live of the person being spied upon.
Had George Orwell read this book, he would have changed a lot in his famous novel. The book is made up of three long essys and each focuses on another aspect in connection with the brutal and totalitarian Ceausescu regime.The first chapter is about the Securitate and its "conspirativity', that is :the comparmentalization or secrecy of its practices. Here Professor Verdely describes in great detail what the twenty-four kilometers of Securitate files contain and the characterization of these files.The second chapter discusses one main question; what did the secrecy for the Securitate mean? Here the author uses a term previously used by Hannah Arendt -a term which defined the secret police as a secret society. By using anthropological terms, Ms. Verdely gives the reader a very broad description of the consequences of secrecy for socialism's legitimation.The last chapter is about the field work of officers and informers of the Securitate.The author herself was subject to surveillance during her many years she had spent in Romania. She was regarded or suspected as a spy working for the CIA and she had the good luck of examining her own files culled from those newly openedarchives.A word of caution merits to be written here: this is not an easy read and the reader is asked for a lot of patience for this book. There are many details and many analyses as well as the use of many terms taken from anthropology. Second, the author has done a great job in describing almost microscopically the daily routine and the modus operandi of the Securitate men and informers. Just to whet your appetite here are some statistics. There were 525000 Securitate workers for a country which had 23 million people. This meant one Securist for every 42 citizens.
