It is frustrating to see the mistakes with titles by this author, particularly because she seems to put a lot of research into many other details of her stories. My daughter read this book first out of the series and has declared that she won't read any more because the errors in title address were so annoying to her. Given who the main characters are, the errors are most prevalent in this book. The address for Lord and Lady Heatherton are correct, but then the author constantly calls Lucas Calvert, Earl of Annesbury, Lord Calvert. WRONG. His name is Calvert, his title is Annesbury. He would be addressed as Lord Annesbury. (For some reason, this does happen once in the book, but then is wrong every other time.) Also incorrect is calling him Lord Lucas Calvert. If you wish to introduce the first name, it should be Lucas Calvert, Lord Annesbury. Also annoying..and incorrect, is the author's habit of addressing the Earl's mother as Lady Pamela. She is Pamela Calvert, The Dowager Lady Annesbury. Or, less formally, Lady Annesbury. The only time Lord/Lady FIRSTNAME LASTNAME, or Lord/Lady FIRSTNAME, is used is when the individual is a child of a Duke, Marquess, or Earl (in this case, all daughters, but only an eldest son...it's complicated), when there is no other title that supersedes it as either a courtesy title from a lesser title of the father, in the case of an eldest son, or a title by marriage, in the case of a daughter. There is a lot to know about titles...too much for me to explain it all here, but it honestly takes very little time to research this information online. There are numerous websites with pages/posts devoted to correct peerage title use. Debretts even has a website.Another issue that I have is the author's tendency towards language that is slightly too modern. I have mostly ignored it, but the word "maybe" is driving me crazy. At the time, they would not have used "maybe" all the time. They would have used "perhaps", or even "mayhap". Further, they would not have used contractions as frequently as written by this author. All that being said, I really do enjoy this author's books...but I had to give vent to the frustration that has been building throughout the series. The author creates an engaging story and compelling characters and is thorough in many areas if research. If one can overlook the errors in title address, then this is a great read.

I don't like to leave negative reviews, but since there are currently no reviews less than 4 stars, I think it is helpful for readers to see a divergent opinion. I read lots of regency romances, and this is the second book by the author that I have read. I did not really care for the first, but I thought I would give this one a try after all the glowing reviews. I stopped reading at 65% because I wasn't enjoying the story and found it boring. I like to read this genre for escape and comfort reading, so I found the grief of both characters to be a downer. I like there to be sparkle and banter and fun, and there was absolutely none of that. To me they did not have any chemistry as their whole relationship had a sad cloud hanging over it. I also don't care for stories like this that feature children and parenting so prominently because, as a parent, I am looking for escape and would rather not read about other people's kids. This is just my personal preference- but give me balls and gown shopping over nursing sick kids and breaking up fights, please. So, this fell flat for me but I do see why others enjoyed it. The writing and storytelling are solid, but it doesn't measure up to what I am looking for in a romance.

How do you find another great love when youVe been blessed to have already found and lost the love of your life? Virginia and Lukas experience all of the emotions you'd expect finding the answer to that question, and I found myself laughing, sighing, and crying with them. This is a lovely story with a very satisfying ending. Oh, and you won't have to skip any pages to avoid peeking in someone's bedroom. Thank you, Ms. Britton, for a very entertaining afternoon.

Romance is not my favorite genre. I keep saying, but then I find myself unable to put down Britton’s books. I’ve finished each of the four so far in one sitting, and I’ve reached the point where I can’t decide which one I love most in this series. The Earl and His Lady, like all of Britton’s books, is character driven, and it is those characters that really make this book worth reading. Both Virginia and Lucas are introduced in other books of the series, but I loved getting into their heads, seeing what they think, what drives them, why they do what they do, as they try to navigate their new life together. It is Britton’s ability to make the characters feel alive, real, that pulls the reader in and will leave you hanging on until the end.

He is a widower with a kind but broken heart. He needs an heir. She is a new widow with two children who are being threatened by their uncle. To protect her children, the widower offers her marriage. And to protect her children, she reluctantly accepts. His lonely heart responds to her, but she still grieves her first husband. Will this family ever truly be his. This was such a beautiful love story. It does not disappoint in any way.

A pleasure to read a regency romance that is without sex descriptions. The story was moving and the main characters realistic worthy individuals. The topic of grief was handled well and accurately.

I have pre ordered this jem right after I have read the gentelman doctor. It is a very satisfiying pure read. And a great instruction about how to treat a grieving woman.
