About the Author
Debra Jay is the coauthor of Love First: A New Approach to Intervention. She is also the author of No More Letting Go: The Spirituality of Taking Action Against Alcoholism and Drug Addiction, and co-wrote Aging and Addiction: Helping Older Adults Overcome Alcohol or Medication Dependence. Debra is in private practice with Jeff Jay, providing intervention training and consultation services for families. She specializes in older adult intervention. She previously worked as an addiction specialist. She is a nationally known speaker and has been writing a newspaper column on alcohol and drugs since 1996. Debra has regularly appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Debra lives in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.

This book is is a must for families dealing with a loved one who has become addicted to any alcohol, drugs or any substance that is affecting your family in a negative way. Addiction affects the entire family and this positive book has successfully helped our family tounderstand how the family plays a role in being part of the addicts roll in addiction and remission.
A concise, clear and committed viewpoint on what family recovery is, what families need, and how they can take care of themselves while doing what they truly want to do: support their loved one in recovery. Debra Jay cuts through the too-often ambiguous messages to families of "detaching with love" and "letting go", finally defining these as not calls to step back into inaction, but to move towards the problem of the family disease through engagement. I found this book and its message completely refreshing, challenging the old message that the family can't really help their loved ones in battling addiction, even though we know it is a family disease.

This book brought all the fragments together into a whole ensemble. It just makes sense that sustained recovery must be a new way of life for both the addict and the family. I finally feel like all the dots are connected and we have a path to follow that is simple and not abstract.
