OK, just received it yesterday. Probably my error, but there is not a single photo of any recipe! I dislike that very much. There is not one thing inspiring about cooking something that does not have a photo. They could be great recipes, but not sure how many I will bother with. Sad. If you like food photos, don't waste your money.
I recently started having health problems involving my G.I. tract that the doctors can't quite figure out; all testing has come back clean, even for Celiac, but eating gluten free seems to help ease my excruciating pain so I decided to order this book to help me learn a whole new way of cooking/ living..I just got it not long ago, so I've only made/ tried a few recipes so far but they're really yummy. The instructions are ready to understand and it makes it easy to know what ingredients you'll need and the time it'll take.I highly recommend!
Gluten-free can be daunting and discouraging. So much of what we have been used to is now off limits and label reading is essential.. Not only food, but shampoos, lotions, makeup, and even medications may contain gluten. This book provides guidelines for those who are struggling with the diet. If you like to bake, gluten free is especially challenging and expensive. I have virtually given it up. This book isn't quite a primer on GF baking and I wouldn't make some of the recipes but, still, it's a good reference.
Gifted this to someone recently diagnosed with Celiac disease -- they really appreciated the ease of the recipes included while figuring out how to shift their lifestyle.
This book has a lot of good recipes I would have not known you good most of these. I can't wait to try some out.
Bought this for my mom for Christmas but she had already bought it for herself sooooo....anyway she has figured out a lot of neat recipes that even the non gluten allergied family enjoys. Soft cover no binding issues

About the Author
Mercer Mayer began writing and illustrating children's books in 1966, and since that time, he has published over 300 titles. Open almost any of the award-winning author/illustrator's books, and out may pop dragons, cuddly monsters, wonderful creatures, and endearing critters."Most of my books are about things that happened to me when I was a little kid," says Mercer. "Now that I'm a big kid, I write about things that happen now, especially with my own children. They always help remind me of what it was like."Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Mercer Mayer spent his childhood hunting lizards and snakes in the swamps near his home. During his teenage years, he attended the Honolulu Academy of Arts. He later received additional training at the Art Students League in New York City. Love this so much that the first copy wore out. My grown Daughters and I still enjoy it and have so much fun re-reading it and sharing it with my Gr. Kids. Perfection in story and illustration.

Merced Mayer books are all great and these wordless ar me wonderful to have kids tell the story. This is one of my favorites
I use this well-"written" book in speech and language intervention--assessment and treatment. The monochromatic illustrations are excellent, bringing to life the very funny story. Wordless books in general are great for language therapy, because the child is able to practice generating a narrative, with visual support. This one in particular is useful, because the story is tight and unambiguous. I highly recommend all of the Boy/Dog/Frog series, especially this one and "A Boy, a Dog, a Frog, and a Friend."

A great book without words to aid a child in developing speech. The child can be creative and tell a story using his/her words. As the child's vocabulary grows, so do the stories the child tells.

Dianne Lake was 14 when she joined Charles Manson's Family. She was there because her mixed up parents decided they didn't have to take care of her anymore. That's why I say she's a victim.You want to reach through the book and shake her mom and dad until their teeth rattle. What in hell were they thinking?!But ultimately she's a victor. She got mental health help, testified against the murdering Charlie and his Family. She got an education, married happily, had kids, and created her own--real--family.Her feelings and adult analysis of how Charlie manipulated people are really interesting. As she looks back, she connects the dots. What she just accepted as Charlie's fiats back then, she now realizes were part of his plan for control and success. The specifics of how he got the Family and outsiders to do his bidding is fascinating.The book is well written and talks about aspects of Manson and his crew that other books don't cover. Whether you're interested in Manson, true crime, or biographies of people who successfully overcome the odds, it's a great read.
Overall this is probably the best memoir written by any of the former members of the Manson Family (Susan Atkins wrote a bunch, but they all feel like attempts to excuse herself, as does Tex Watkins's book). To her credit Lake admits at the beginning that many of these events took place 50 years ago and there are simply things she cannot remember, and that she is presenting things from her perspective. The only reason I'm giving this four stars instead of five is because it feels as if there is a crucial chapter missing between when she testifies against Manson et all in the first trial and the epilogue. I found myself wondering if anyone from the Family ever tried to contact her after 1978 (she mentions one pseudo-reporter finding her), and what her thoughts about these people -- in particular the girls whom she refers to at one point as her friends, lovers, and family -- after all of these years. I understand why she may not have wanted to write more about her husband and children, but -- particularly since the parole board recently voted to grant Leslie Van Houtten (whom Lake doesn't seem to have had liked much) parole -- I felt this was really needed. One (probably unintended) audience I think this book might resonate with would be girls in the 14-16 age range who might be struggling to connect with their family.
I don't want this book to end. Fascinating. I was a pseudo-hippie in the 70's - I remember this all. The author has written an interesting birds eye view of what it was like living with Charles Manson. I often thought briefly of heading toward a racier life than I actually did - so glad I did not. I chose working for a living in corporate America; I could have landed in a similar situation with the wrong guidance. Thank God Dianne you made it out in one piece. Your book is the kind of book I save for vacations in the islands or a long plane trip! I'm getting toward the end of the book - too bad. Good books like this are hard to find.
My interest in this book stems from my readings of Alice Miller’s early work and like many people, I’ve read "Helter Skelter". The curiosity of how a ‘Charles Manson’ could be created and how he could get so many followers has been an ongoing question since those horrible murders 50 years ago. Having viewed the PBS, “Summer of Love†documentary and seeing Netflix’s, “Mindhunterâ€, (which is a great book also), one significant key lies within this highly introspective account.In the PBS show, one point made is that the Haight-Ashbury District was teeming with young kids on their own. In light of current sex abuse scandals & the high incidence of pedophilia, I wondered how many of those vulnerable kids were escaping molesting environments and dysfunctional homes. Turns out my suspicions were correct with this history; Dianne Lane provides a very personal recollection of being a 14 year-old in 1967, in the LA and San Francisco area. Dianne’s heartbreaking family experience and her courageous portrayal sheds light on how kids need safe structure in their lives. Neither she or Manson had healthy upbringings and they intertwined in a perfect storm of deadly chaos. (At the very least known, Manson was burdened with abandonment, uprooting and deep shame at age 4 or 5 with his teenage mother’s imprisonment. He was sent into the Catholic school system thereafter.)Dianne is the narrator of her own account and she has a pleasing voice; she speaks clearly and the book is written with great focus and care. She shares the thoughts of a normal, young teen trying to navigate life with normal, early teenage drives and needs. Unfortunately, she was let down by the adults who surrounded her. I hope the insight in these books & programs available to the public, along with the daily increasing voices of women & men who’ve survived sexual abuse will make great change in how children are treated. We need to make less predators and we need to make less vulnerable kids. I believe it takes great courage to expose a personal history like this; I hope it makes a lasting imprint into our culture. I highly recommend this book to all parents, all adults and all abuse survivors. I deeply thank Dianne Lane for sharing her life.

This story describes the struggles of a patient polar bear looking for the next ice floe. The polar bear continues to swim for days to survive. 😥The book is filled with breathtaking watercolor illustrations of polar bears and many other arctic animals. It delicately reminds us of the challenges polar bears face everyday due to global warming. It also includes a section with more polar bear facts for the more experienced, inquisitive reader.
The first page of Moore’s book reads: “Polar bears are patient beasts, as patient as glaciers. We know how to hope and how to wait. I learned to be patient long ago from my polar bear mother—â€To move in narration, from objective, to plural personal, to intimately singular, is an elegant and trustworthy way to begin a story. Sea Bear is a delightful tale describing a mother polar bear's instinctual rhythms that guide her through the peril of seasons. The author draws the reader in with lovely, easy to read-aloud language with pinches of alliteration, adding interest for even the earliest of listeners. And can I talk about the illustrations! They are realistic, yet whimsical, truly inviting the reader on the journey. My favorite is mid-story with a giant whale depicted deep below the surface of the water where the bear is paddling. I also love the illustrated mirroring of the vast depth of the sea and the vast height of the night skies, adorned with northern lights. Complete eye candy. This is a five star gem that belongs in every home library! I hope you get the chance to enjoy it!
SEA BEAR subtly spans across time while following the life of one polar bear as the Arctic's aqua water splashes across Lindsay Moore's beautifully-illustrated pages. We see the life of a polar bear through the seasons and catch a glimpse into the generations before and after her. The book gently shows the reader why sea ice matters so much to polar bears. Though a tale filled with ice, SEA BEAR is told with warmth and is a stunning portrait of the interconnectedness of life.
Having had the opportunity to see a pre-publication dummy of this book, I knew how beautiful the finished product could be. I was not disappointed. Moore's storytelling is grounded in fact, yet lyrical in execution. And the illustrations? Pure magic. Highly recommended.
