Saves all the tedious thinking and planning on where to stop to take photos and what one could "take a miss on"I wish they had a little on which towns to stay in to get sunrise shots easily but that is a very minor drawback.We usually spend a great deal of time on planning a trip. For example the Smokies. Had an entire trip plannedthen found one of the roads we really wanted to drive is a one way! Would have ruined our trip the way weoriginally planned. The other drawback is you have to use it backwards coming from the south but we foundthe north is actually warmer than the south end as far as spring or fall so I add that as valuable information.
I bought this book in anticipation of traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway in my Winnebago View which has a height of 11.1' according to it's manual. While the book was informative, it was completely wrong about the tunnels at the southern end of the Pkwy when it said they were too low for an RV to pass thru. We traveled the Pkwy from Fancy Gap VA to Gatlinburg TN and every tunnel on the Pkwy was 13.5' or higher. I don't know where this author got their information, but it was incorrect. The section of the Pkwy from Asheville to Gatlinburg was the most scenic part of the Pkwy, a bikers paradise. Don't plan on making good time on the Pkwy, my average was only 25 mph; there were many overlooks and the views were fantastic.
Great information for each mile marker. However, the featured information at the top of many pages is in black print on a dark blue background. Neither my wife nor I could read most of it. If the print had been in white, it would have great. Only three stars because of that.
Used this guide on a recent trip along the length of the Parkway. As it happens, we traveled north to south, which is how the book is arranged. While my husband drove, I read out loud the upcoming mile marker information-- and this guide was very informative. Very glad I'd purchased it. If you're planning on driving the Parkway, I'd highly recommend this book.
I purchased this book along with Best of the Blue Ridge Parkway before a recent trip down the Parkway. While there aren't many photos in this book, it gives very detailed info about all the various vista sites along the Parkway - helpful to know what one is looking at.Good to have had both guides - Best of the Blue Ridge has many nice photos, but not much info on things other than what the author has deemed "best."Based on both books' reviews, we stayed at the Peaks of Otter Lodge along the Parkway which was very nice.
Excellent milepost by milepost guide to the BRP. It tells you what to expect at each overlook, but does not direct you to any attractions beyond the Parkway. For that you'll want to check out Nye Simmons "Best of the Blue Ridge Parkway."
This book is easily the best book I have found on the Blueridge Parkway. It has a concise list of almost all the trails and what mile marker they are located at, where all the tunnels are, when the flowers bloom, has nice pictures, where the pull outs are, where the highlights are, and does all that in a small easily packed book with the cheapest price. Too bad I didn't find this book first.

In this day & age of "hype" of who's the best at whatever...this is eye opening.

I gave this to my boss some years ago, she is an avid golfer and loves the book and inspiration.
This book is an interesting, yet honest look at the life of Babe Didrikson Zaharias. There are parts of the book that are necessarily a bit dry, e.g., the explanation of how and why she tried to regain her amateur status after playing as a professional. Most of the book, however, does an excellent job of getting the reader to feel her seemingly boundless energy and determination. It also does a good job of portraying the limitations of the era on female athletes. It doesn't make them into tragedies, but it does point out that they were more "hurdles" that Babe had to overcome.For those interested in biographies of famous women, this book and Freedman's book about Eleanor Roosevelt are both excellent additions to the young adult library.

It doesn't just tell about her adult life; it also talks about how she got started, like when she was young. She was always the tomboy type until she was in her twenties. As she got older, she had to be the center of all the attention. To tell you the truth, she was always full of herself, which wasn't always a good thing. Babe participated in almost every sport that a woman could do. She was good at every one of them, too. She turned professional in track and field, basketball, and golf. I recommend this book to any girl who loves to compete in sports. I really didn't have a role model until I read this book!
I bought this book for a public speaking my 7th grade students were doing. The book is detailed in her athletic achievements, despite harsh critics. It also delves into her personal life and life with cancer. Babe Didrikson was an intriguing person and Russell Freedman captured her life very nicely.
Bought as gift, so don't know.
My daughter needed a biography on a female for a school book report. This one was very informative and we learned a lot about someone who honestly we had not heard of before I found this book. It would be good for third grade and up.

Excellent reference for plants that will do extremely well in Southern Florida. There are many others beyond the scope of this book that do well, but this one has a number of species I would never have considered.Great information and instruction. David the Good also has a YouTube channel that provides even more examples and suggestions.Recommended for Central/Southern Florida gardeners, and anyone else in the Tropics or Sub-Tropics.
Thank you, David, for writing an entertaining and very informative guide to what actually IS easy to grow here, besides weeds, in our hot and humid climate with ridiculously sandy and more often than not, nutrient deficient soil/sand. After years of gardening in Central Florida, I have stumbled upon a few of the veggies you recommend that did thrive, and also not get carried off by the bugs and critters before I got to them, but you have opened my eyes to so many more. A few may be a little difficult to find, but with the internet, Craigslist, and specialized gardening retailers, there are so many sources to find them besides your local box store. I love your style of gardening and writing. Throw some seeds here and there and if they grow easily and produce prolifically with minimal effort, they have earned the right to hang out in your garden. Being on a budget, also appreciate your cheap skate methods and resourcefulness to use what you have instead of recommending expensive gadgets, support structures, and soil amendments. I have purchased and enjoyed your other books as well. I highly recommend all of them. Keep up the wonderful work!
If you've ever tried to garden in Florida, you know how it is. No soil. Everything dies in the July heat. Seed-packet planting advice is mostly useless. Buy a truckload of mushroom compost... and every bit of it has leached away in 6 months.David the Good has been there, done that, and found some solutions. And if you've been stymied by your Florida "garden" attempts before, give him a try! Grow the things that WANT to grow in Florida (it's okay to give up on celery. Really.), and plant them when they want to be planted (ignore what the seed packet says!).
If it weren't for this book I'd still be trying to grow the same crops I grew in Wisconsin here in Florida, and losing the battle in a big way. It never occurred to me to try different varieties or give up on some things altogether. Instead of putting my head down and going into another season like a charging bull - "I'm going to win this time!!" I've thrown in the towel on some things I love but I don't want to get like, two beefsteak tomatoes. I've taken a lot of his recommendations on varieties and substitutes and getting to try things I never would have had I continued to be stubborn. And I'm working a lot less and eating a lot more. That's the whole idea - which I forgot about when I was using a blowtorch, magnifying glass, tweezers, sniper, slingshot, etc. to kill green caterpillars on my cucumbers.

You’ll know how to evaluate and improve your soil. You’ll understand how to deal effectively with pests. You’ll get advice based upon what areas of Florida you live in (gulf or Palm cost, northern FL etc.). You’ll get specific recommendations for various use cases (Want a fast growing vine? Looking for shade? Looking to grow enough food to cook with? Want something ornamental and tolerant of the scorching summer sun?)Basically, it’s a one stop shop.Reading this has multiplied my success rate as well as my satisfaction with Florida gardening.If the author is listening: in an updated, perhaps more comprehensive version (in addition to, rather than replacing this) it would be really useful to have a “quick reference†/ “at a glance†of color photos based upon your location of the plants you mention, preferably by us and with a key indicating needs for sun, watering, etc.. Even if they were small and in a table, calling out the main features for easy identification instead of showing a full plant. For the unfamiliar novice, it can be daunting to commit all the names to memory, and visualize your descriptions. It would save the aspiring gardener from excessive google-ing alongside reading the book, and provide an excellent reference to bring along to a garden store to help identify the plants you are looking for. It can be a bit involved to crouch and read the labels / names on each pot to find what you are looking for.Personally I was willing to google and I understand the cost considerations in publication, especially when printing in small volume. I didn’t think it enough to bump a star especially considering the wealth of other information inside but I think in future editions people would really welcome that addition.
After years of struggling in NE Florida to grow vegetables I decided to buy this book. I'm so glad I did. I bought the seeds and plants that were recommended and I am looking forward to a bountiful harvest this year!! This guy knows his stuff and he knows Florida.

After using this booklet I am noticing there is grammatical errors in the teaching lessons. In addition to the grammatical errors, I'm also noticing there is numerical errors when referencing diagrams in association to sample questions and page numbers. The material covered in this book is quite impressive. However, these small details distract the learning. I would not recommend buying this book as some of the questions and the answers are completely contradictory. I give this a two star simply for the material provided.
Patrol LEO. I bought this book back when I took my entrance exam. I got an 89% on my test. I suggest this book to anyone who is facing a written police entrence exam because it is very helpful.
By far the best decision I made to prep for the written exam. Everything you need to know and more, is in this book. I spent a couple hours a day going through each chapter leading up to exam day. Everything is super easy to follow, the practice tests are great. Used it for about 2 weeks prior to exam and I scored a 98%. Definitely worth the money and time

I have been a cop for a long time. I tell new people this book is a great investment. It gives you the reasons behind the decisions we make and why some answers are better than others. Get it. You Will do better on the test.
ZEROOOOO Help for Texas exams, Texas has a general knowledge test. This is no help for the entrance exam.
I got this book to help practice math and there is hardly any math inside the book. In the practice tests they only have maybe 5 math questions very similar to each other. I wouldn't buy again.
