Great recipes using easy to find ingredients and this is an amazing cookbook because the author had done a wonderful job of simplifying authentic Indian recipes in IP version with using only easily available ingredients for spices and the results are very fulfilling and I learned how to make your own fresh masala and use it and just the rich aroma of fresh cooked meal in the kitchen and then awesome tastier Indian dish and I did recently discover thanks to a friend that I love Chicken Tikka Masala! It may not be traditionally Indian, but it introduced me to the flavor profile that I love and naturally it was the first recipe I tried from this book and it was fabulous and so easy to make! I love that the book starts out with a section on the kitchen staples you will need to make most of the recipes in the book! So helpful! and then it dives right in to recipes that have been tested and proven to work well in the Instant Pot! and the Chicken Vindaloo and Butter Chicken are also favorites of mine now! It also contains quite an extensive section on vegetarian dishes, and side dishes of beans and rice! I was quite surprised and impressed with the dessert section as well and the Indian Rice Pudding is amazing abd i am still learning about Indian cuisine, but with this book it seems less daunting and much easier to accomplish.

I think i will enjoy all these Indian recipes since i love spicy foods, that is what their dishes are known for. This cookbook has a great collection of new and unique Indian dishes that are match with the amazing Instant pot. You will also discover the nutritional and medicinal properties of each spice they are using. Love it.
I enjoyed the Indian instant pot recipes here. Most of them are traditional recipes made easier. Who wouldn't enjoy Indian spices? I love how each recipes as incorporated spices. There are lots of different ways to cook curry too. I hope I will get separate slow cooker and pressure cooker recipes too. Thumbs up!

This is one of several books that rose to the top of the list while researching the subject of desert gardening in southern Arizona. Mielke's book turned out to be better even than expected. Very well organized, well edited, and full of useful information for our purpose (landscaping and gardening a new property in Ajo, Arizona). The book begins with very helpful general introductory material related to growing plants in the desert. It then gets into species by species accounts, organized alphabetically by species name, which is very handy. Scientific and common names for each species are given, and for each species there are terse, informative sections on: general description; native distribution; tips on culture; and uses in the landscape. The tips on culture and uses in the landscape we found particularly useful. Each species description is paired to a color plate, and the photography is well done. There are useful appendices in the back of the book related to picking plants for particular circumstances (wildlife, for ex.), and a list of resources, plus a good bibliography and index. The book is in a format that can easily be used as a 'field guide' for nursery visits, or hiking in the desert, which is amazing considering the amount of information packed into it. Note that the term "native plants" in the title is used broadly; Mielke includes plants that are natives of three American deserts: Mojave, Sonoran, and Chihuahuan. So the range involved is extensive, from SE California to West Texas, and south into Mexico as well. Not all geographers recognize a Great Basin and Colorado Plateau desert type, but a number of the plants described in the book are native to those regions as well. However, plenty of information is provided to allow the reader to narrow down the plant choices to those most appropriate for his or her particular provenance. We are focused on low water landscaping, and it is now difficult to imagine trying to put in a xeric garden without this book.
This is the best book I've found on Southwestern Landscape and desert plants. My Library consists of 5 desert landscaping books and I always end up with Judy's Native Plants. Thank you so very much. My original Native Plants book is getting a little on the ragged side so I ordered a new one and I ordered a second one for my yard maintenance man. Since we are mandated to cut back on water usage there is more of a demand on planting Southwestern Desert plants and their care.

Catherine A. Bailey, PhD, RN, CNE Catherine Bailey is a registered nurse. She graduated from a diploma program in Germantown, Pennsylvania and received her BS, MS, and PhD from Texas Woman’s University (TWU) College of Nursing in Denton, Texas. She is an Associate Professor at Texas Woman’s University, College of Nursing in Dallas, Texas. Her primary interests are in nursing education, adult healthcare and research in nursing. She has taught undergraduate baccalaureate nursing students in the classroom, the simulation lab, and the clinical setting since 2001. She teaches research to master’s level graduate nursing students and she has chaired Professional Projects for Family Nurse Practitioner students. She also works with doctoral students who are seeking the degree of Doctor of Nursing Practice. She has published textbook chapters on the use of high-fidelity simulations for nursing students and case scenarios that are appropriate for simulation experiences. She has presented the findings from her studies in podium and poster presentations at METI HPSN Conferences and Sigma Theta Tau International Conferences as well as other regional and local venues. Dr. Bailey has chaired the TWU Institutional Review Board for the Texas Woman’s University, Dallas Campus. She has worked as a research consultant for the Department of Veterans Affairs, VA North Texas Health Care System, Nursing Service, and participated in the planning of four biennial National Nursing Research conferences in Dallas, Texas. Not a bad primer for beginners to Ruby. The book has noticeable spelling/grammatics errors occasionally, and with a lack of history for the company that produces this book and others, this sets the book in a somewhat "needs polish" category. On first glance, the book looks to be published by a popular company, as the quality of the book aesthetics-wise is done very well; however, you can tell after a bit of page-flipping that it was probably edited and produced independently, solely by the author (props to him as the quality of his small production is surprisingly good). Many good pointers are brought up throughout each chapter, but as you progress more into the book, you notice how the vagueness on certain topics can lead to more confusion rather than simplifying the complexities of Ruby programming.Again, great for those who are completely new to Ruby programming as a primer, although I wouldn't say it's for the complete programming newbie; again, there's certain vagueness, even in the beginning, that may require additional research outside of this book to understand fully what the author is trying to convey. It really helped that I took programming courses in high school and college, so picking up on conveyed ideas and explanations wasn't too difficult. This book would go great alongside a more polished, refined, more in-depth Ruby instruction book; this one to be used to prime into the more complex book next. If this book were peer reviewed or collaborated by others in the profession and processed through a reputable publishing/editing company, it would have turned out far greater as a "one stop shop" for Ruby beginners; for now it should be looked at as supplemental education for Ruby beginners.

as the title says, it suits a beginner with no/minimal programming knowledge (like me) perfectly. I have always been wanting to learn programming in a more simple way but most of the courses and books out there just bombarded me with various technical terms and made me more confuse.Will definitely recommend to others and hope you will also create other programming guide in future!

Always appreciate how John Piper consistently references scripture.
3.5 StarsWhilst you can tell from even the basic description of this book that it is going to be a personal account, I don't think I was prepared for how personal it is. I like concrete facts more than opinions and this comes off slightly more about the author than it does about the Apostle Paul. I found it interesting, and overall, I actually thought it was worth reading, but it won't add a lot to your knowledge of the Apostle Paul, if that is why you pick up this book.Still, even though it is highly subjective to the opinion of the author, it is well written and beautifully thought out. The author clearly has a solid faith and it is nice to see that. I encourage you to give this book a try and form your own opinion.This review is based on a complimentary copy from the publisher, provided through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
How could I possibly give a John Piper book less than 4 stars. He's a godly man who communicates truth well. And there's a lot of good content in this book. But I'm just not that thrilled withit. The format is all wrong. It sounds long a comedy show narrative or super long blog: "Thirty Reasons Why I Love the Apostle Paul, number 30...." The book consists of (30, of course) chapters each dealing with something Piper admires about Paul. And honestly there's some good stuff in those chapters, but on the other hand, many of the chapters feel like undeveloped books. and they are just thrown together. I would have loved to see the material in this book integrated and put into an account of Paul's ministry or something like that. In this form, the ideas aren't bad, but they feel incomplete. More organization please.
a pastor’s reasons for his admiration and love of the apostle paul, written in a simple language accessible to the general reader, a high achievement, considering the complexity of some of paul’s letters. but john piper’s book isn’t intended to offer a commentary or discussion of the thirteen letters written by paul and what i refer to as the adventures of paul told in book of acts for theological debate. piper’s emphasis is on suffering for christ based on love and faith found in the letters written by paul to churches and friends in the ministry and how he has benefited from reading and reflecting on the teachings of paul.john piper is upfront in stating that these are his reasons, that other readers who share his love or admiration for paul, may have different reasons. of course, readers will disagree with some of his explanations of certain points of paul's teachings.i am in agreement with piper’s clarity in explaining the the trinity as the father and son and the spirit as separate divinities while in union as one, but we differ in that piper refers to the divinity (divinities) as person, a designation, i want to say, for humans, not gods, except when we speak about the personhood of jesus in human form, after his birth and before his ascension. nor have i found this identification of divinity as humanity anywhere in this apostle’s letters as something paul believed.does john piper has all the answers to the writings of paul and his adventures in the book of acts? he admits to his ongoing process to understand, finding personal insight into his readings and applications over his decades as a student of paul. piper shares one biblical instance where he is baffled by paul.‘What baffles me is that Paul seems to just let the sinfulness of the preachers in Rome go. It’s true that they were not distorting the gospel in their preaching, but they were distorting it in their attitudes.’ The conclusion piper reaches, ‘Paul says that even an angel from heaven, with all his moral perfection, could not save a single soul with a corrupted gospel. / On the other hand, an unkind, resentful, immature preacher who preaches an accurate and true gospel of the grace of God may be the instrument of salvation. We can’t miss the implication. Paul really does think that salvation is more thoroughly undermined by a corrupted gospel than by a corrupted preacher.’i am not a deep reader of the book of acts and the letters of paul. but i appreciate john piper’s book for its clarity, and his insights into aspects of the ministry of paul , some of which i had neither known nor considered. this is a book i recommend to readers as an introduction to one way of approaching paul’s ministry.
This review could be titled: 'Why I Love John Piper's new book.' Yes, I absolutely love his new book entitled 'Why I Love the Apostle Paul.' I've been greatly enriched by this book -- and after reading it I see the unique place it holds among the huge list of the books previously written by the author. Why so? Because it provides the reader with a treasury of texts out of Paul's letters that reveal the heart of who Paul was, and how he thought, and how he dealt with his own sin, and how he faced trying times, and how he loved, and how he grew as a follower of Christ. As I read this book, I repeatedly thought to myself: 'This would be a powerful resource to use as a tool in a small group discipleship context.’ It would also be a rich guide for one’s own daily devotions. Its 30 brief chapters are easy to follow and digest. The content is Bible-soaked and has an ever-present unity as it all comes out of texts found in Paul's own writings. I own all of John Piper's books, and I believe this newest book will hold a special place among all of the others -- as it drives the reader into the heart of what it means to grow in Christ -- and does so in an extremely relational manner. It is full of rich biblical insights (always taken directly out of the text of Scripture) -- which then are taken into practical application regarding how we live as believers today – and how John Piper has applied them in his own life. I give this book my highest recommendation for its ability to display the way in which an anthology of Pauline texts can be mined for rich guidance into practical Christian growth. Don't miss this one -- it is a jewel.

I got this on sale for my kindle. Great book. I kind of wish I had the hard cover edition! Excellent information. A wonderful addition to the library of a bread baker.
Tartine Bread is a very good introductory textbook, rather than a cookbook, on baking naturally leavened, or sourdough, bread. Why do I call it a textbook and not a cookbook? A cookbook is a collection of recipes that one can choose from almost at random and expect any techniques required to be explained in the recipe; one doesn't have to read or study anything much outside the recipe chosen, and the techniques described aren't discussed in depth. Tartine Bread, in contrast, has a lengthy and in-depth discussion of most of the techniques required by subsequent recipes in the first one, Basic Country Bread, and does not discuss them elsewhere; furthermore, many important terms used in the other recipes, for example, leaven, rest, bench rest, turn, bulk fermentation, are defined in that recipe and nowhere else. A careful reading of the Basic Country Bread recipe is therefore necessary to approach the other recipes in the book. But it is also a textbook in the sense that the techniques described can be freely applied elsewhere: I applied the dough handling methods described in the Basic Country Bread recipe to a sourdough bread recipe from another cookbook, and not only had to expend very little effort (Basic Country Bread dough is intermittently "turned" during its first rise rather than kneaded) but was rewarded with the best rise of any bread I'd baked to date, and a tender crumb.I find there are some significant shortcomings to Tartine Bread, however. Most seriously, the discussion of how to make a starter is both laborious and vague; there are many simpler and more detailed instructions for making starter available on the web. If I hadn't already had some starter of my own, I might have given up all hope on reading the method here. (If you're already familiar with how to make starter, the starter used in Tartine Bread is 50% bread flour/50% whole wheat with 100% hydration). Not as serious but certainly annoying is that while there are plenty of photographs along with the Basic Country Bread recipe that show the dough handling techniques, they aren't labeled with the specific step they show and often aren't on or facing the page where the step shown is discussed. Last (and least important, but I've got to say it), I find the prose in the introduction and accompanying materials a bit precious and breathy. In sum, however, I find this is a valuable book on baking bread, and one I'll be referring to often.
Chad Robertson explains step by step how to bake the perfect loaf. Testers with no baking experience were recruited to see whether professional loaves could be baked at home. All succeeded in making loaves indistinguishable from the author's. His point is, you can do it without a commercial steam-injected oven.What do you need that you may not already have? 3 Items.1. A 3-qt cast iron casserole or combo cooker https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009JKG9M/ref=sr_ph_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1482380697&sr=sr-1&keywords=Cast+iron+combo+cooker. I used my old LeCreset casserole.2. A couple of bannetons https://www.amazon.com/Banneton-Bread-Proofing-Basket-Beautiful/dp/B01E52S2UI/ref=sr_1_5?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1482380774&sr=1-5&keywords=bannetons.3. And rice flour. (I am assuming you have whole wheat flour and bread flour or can buy them at your local grocery.)I followed the instructions for the basic loaf and was amazed at the results. Thick crust, tender crumb, lots of irregular holes and big ears. The author explains that if you want big ears, you must do nearly horizontal slashes.Here are my results:
SInce a teenager I have been making sour dough bread... for 15 years I tried & tried to make big round artesian boule's ... but failed every time, I tried different recipes, different books... by fluke I borrowed this from the library, read the book 2x, studying all the fantastic photo's & lengthy descriptions... it paid off... for the last 5 years I have been making the basic Country Sour Dough. It is easy to follow, easy to make & the best bread ever to to be eaten. Everywhere I go everyone wants the recipe. If I buy bread like it, it costs $9-12 per loaf, I can make it with Organic flour for $2.50 give or take a dollar. Why buy the book? So you can make for a few minutes in a 24 hour perios the most amazing bread on the planet!!!!!The photo's are of double the recipe just hot out of the oven. I used Kamut, spelt, Rye & wheat flour.
This is a fantastic book on the art of bread making. If you are looking for a bunch of bread recipes, this is not your book. The details are many and the explanations are well written. However, there recipes are not traditional looking (list of ingredients then numbered instructions). I had to write out a summary and the order of what to do and when. This led to an exceptional bread that my whole family loves. I have had loaves not spoil for two weeks or more. Another piece of advice is to cut your loaf in half about 10 to 15 minutes after it is done. On half goes in the bread drawer and the other half gets eaten almost immediately by passersby. The crust on the loaves are very thick and can be difficult to cut through at times. A serrated bread knife will get through the crust with a certain amount of effort. I may get an electric knife to help with this process. If you are contemplating on getting this book, do yourself a favor and get it. You're first loaf may not be perfect, nor the fifth loaf, but you will eventually make a loaf that is how bread should taste. Don't worry, even the less than perfect loaves are tasty.
Follow the instructions and you can't go wrong. Chad Robertson tells you precisely what to expect when things are going right, and that's exactly what happens. Excellent instruction. Pay careful attention to the details, such as dough temp during bulk rise, and you can't go wrong. I have never baked anything before in my life. And I pulled these two loafs out of my oven this morning. I used rye to get the starter going strong. Took about two weeks for me to get it on it's feet and learn how to read what it's doing.
