Just order it already. It's freaking amazing. I SO wish I had read this early on in my parenting journey. This book addresses the thoughts and feelings of any parent who's walked the treatment journey with a teen, from a firsthand perspective. You CANNOT go wrong with this book - it will hit you straight in the feels.
I wish I had read this book 10 or even 15 years ago, but at that time I didn't know I needed it. Even still with my 20 year old son battling addiction and childhood trauma, and me seeing so clearly now how poorly I have handled all of that, it's never too late to improve upon the way I relate to him. I find also that the ideas put forth in this book are helpful in my dealings with all people, not just my son.
As the parent of a child with addiction I have come to realize that my own peace of mind is critical. Heroic Parent clarifies how caring for yourself, with the hard work that requires, can allow your child to work on him or herself. "Am I a good dad?" no longer depends on my child's success or failure.Examples and suggestions that ring true and motivate me.
The program is priceless. Dr. Reedy provides so much information to help parents be better parents without shaming themselves! Love this book! I recommend it for all parents.
This is a must read for any parent or caregiver trying to understand their childs behavior. This book will empower you to change the way you see yourself as a parent and become a better person. SUCH a good book!! There are many good (and not so good) parenting books and philosophies out there. In my experience, however, none of them really address the critical importance of parental “intentionâ€. If a parent has unresolved emotional and psychological stressors, even the best parenting techniques and philosophies will fall short of their mark. Parents will then struggle more in raising their kids to become healthy adults and positive contributions to society. The excellence of this book is rooted in its message about empowering parents with the ability to go within and dig to the roots of how and why they parent the way they do. Truly seeing the “self†and fostering good emotional health and empathy builds a solid foundation for parents to better work with whatever parenting philosophies and techniques work best for their families.My personal favorite parenting philosophy is written about in the book “Parenting With Love and Logic†by Jim Fay and Foster Cline. I have experienced first-hand how effective this philosophy can be when parents utilize it from a place of love and empathy. I have also personally witnessed how ineffective it can be when a parent uses the methods of “love and logic†without the backing of love and empathy. When a parents’ own unresolved issues, traumas, codependency, inner wounds, and anger merge with “love and logic†methods, the techniques can twist into drama and abuse. “Journey of the Heroic Parent†empowers parents to address any of their own issues which could undermine otherwise outstanding parenting philosophies like “love and logicâ€.The author, Dr. Reedy, specializes in working with families who are dealing with “difficult†kids, often who are struggling with addictions of some kind. Remnants of HistoryIt has been said that man is a rational animal. All my life I have been searching for evidence which could support this.—Bertrand RussellAre human beings "noble in reason" and "infinite in faculty" as William Shakespeare famously wrote? Perfect, "in God’s image," as some biblical scholars have asserted? Hardly. If mankind were the product of some intelligent, compassionate designer, our thoughts would be rational, our logic impeccable. Our memory would be robust, our recollections reliable. Our sentences would be crisp, our words precise, our languages systematic and regular, not besodden with irregular verbs (sing-sang, ring-rang, yet bring-brought) and other peculiar inconsistencies. As the language maven Richard Lederer has noted, there would be ham in hamburger, egg in eggplant. English speakers would park in parkways and drive on driveways, and not the other way around. At the same time, we humans are the only species smart enough to systematically plan for the future—yet dumb enough to ditch our most carefully made plans in favor of short-term gratification. ("Did I say I was on a diet? Mmm, but three-layer chocolate mousse is my favorite . . . Maybe I’ll start my diet tomorrow.") We happily drive across town to save $25 on a $100 microwave but refuse to drive the same distance to save exactly the same $25 on a $1,000 flat-screen TV. We can barely tell the difference between a valid syllogism, such as All men are mortal, Socrates is a man, therefore Socrates is mortal, and a fallacious counterpart, such as All living things need water, roses need water, therefore roses are living things (which seems fine until you substitute car batteries for roses). If I tell you that "Every sailor loves a girl," you have no idea whether I mean one girl in particular (say, Betty Sue) or whether I’m really saying "to each his own." And don’t even get me started on eyewitness testimony, which is based on the absurd premise that we humans can accurately remember the details of a briefly witnessed accident or crime, years after the fact, when the average person is hard pressed to keep a list of a dozen words straight for half an hour. I don’t mean to suggest that the "design" of the human mind is a total train wreck, but if I were a politician, I’m pretty sure the way I’d put it is "mistakes were made." The goal of this book is to explain what mistakes were made—and why.Where Shakespeare imagined infinite reason, I see something else, what engineers call a "kluge." A kluge is a clumsy or inelegant—yet surprisingly effective—solution to a problem. Consider, for example, what happened in April 1970 when the CO2 filters on the already endangered lunar module of Apollo 13 began to fail. There was no way to send a replacement filter up to the crew—the space shuttle hadn’t been invented yet—and no way to bring the capsule home for several more days. Without a filter, the crew would be doomed. The mission control engineer, Ed Smylie, advised his team of the situation, and said, in effect, "Here’s what’s available on the space capsule; figure something out." Fortunately, the ground crew was able to meet the challenge, quickly cobbling together a crude filter substitute out of a plastic bag, a cardboard box, some duct tape, and a sock. The lives of the three astronauts were saved. As one of them, Jim Lovell, later recalled, "The contraption wasn’t very handsome, but it worked." Not every kluge saves lives. Engineers sometimes devise them for sport, just to show that something—say, building a computer out of Tinkertoys— can be done, or simply because they’re too lazy to do something the right way. Others cobble together kluges out of a mixture of desperation and resourcefulness, like the TV character MacGyver, who, needing to make a quick getaway, jerry-built a pair of shoes from duct tape and rubber mats. Other kluges are created just for laughs, like Wallace and Gromit’s "launch and activate" alarm clock/coffeemaker/Murphy bed and Rube Goldberg’s "simplified pencil sharpener" (a kite attached to a string lifts a door, which allows moths to escape, culminating in the lifting of a cage, which frees a woodpecker to gnaw the wood that surrounds a pencil’s graphite core). MacGyver’s shoes and Rube Goldberg’s pencil sharpeners are nothing, though, compared to perhaps the most fantastic kluge of them all—the human mind, a quirky yet magnificent product of the entirely blind process of evolution.The origin, and even the spelling, of the word kluge is up for grabs. Some spell it with a d (kludge), which has the virtue of looking as clumsy as the solutions it denotes, but the disadvantage of suggesting the wrong pronunciation. (Properly pronounced, kluge rhymes with huge, not sludge. One could argue that the spelling klooge (rhymes with stooge) would even better capture the pronunciation, but I’m not about to foist a third spelling upon the world.) Some trace the word to the old Scottish word cludgie, which means "an outside toilet." Most believe the origins lie in the German word Kluge, which means "clever." The Hacker’s Dictionary of Computer Jargon traces the term back at least to 1935, to a "Kluge [brand] paper feeder," described as "an adjunct to mechanical printing presses."The Kluge feeder was designed before small, cheap electric motors and control electronics; it relied on a fiendishly complex assortment of cams, belts, and linkages to both power and synchronize all its operations from one motive driveshaft. It was accordingly temperamental, subject to frequent breakdowns, and devilishly difficult to repair—but oh, so clever!Virtually everybody agrees that the term was first popularized in February 1962, in an article titled "How to Design a Kludge," written, tongue in cheek, by a computer pioneer named Jackson Granholm, who defined a kluge as "an ill-assorted collection of poorly matching parts, forming a distressing whole." He went on to note that "the building of a Kludge . . . is not work for amateurs. There is a certain, indefinable, masochistic finesse that must go into true Kludge building. The professional can spot it instantly. The amateur may readily presume that ‘that’s the way computers are.’" The engineering world is filled with kluges. Consider, for example, something known as vacuum-powered windshield wipers, common in most cars until the early 1960s. Modern windshield wipers, like most gizmos on cars, are driven by electricity, but back in the olden days, cars ran on 6 volts rather than 12, barely enough power to keep the spark plugs going and certainly not enough to power luxuries like windshield wipers. So some clever engineer rigged up a kluge that powered windshield-wiper motors with suction, drawn from the engine, rather than electricity. The only problem is that the amount of suction created by the engine varies, depending on how hard the engine is working. The harder it works, the less vacuum it produces. Which meant that when you drove your 1958 Buick Riviera up a hill, or accelerated hard, your wipers slowed to a crawl, or even stopped working altogether. On a rainy day in the mountains, Grandpa was out of luck. What’s really amazing—in hindsight—is that most people probably didn’t even realize it was possible to do better. And this, I think, is a great metaphor for our everyday acceptance of the idiosyncrasies of the human mind. The mind is inarguably impressive, a lot better than any available alternative. But it’s still flawed, often in ways we scarcely recognize. For the most part, we simply accept our faults —such as our emotional outbursts, our mediocre memories, and our vulnerability to prejudice—as standard equipment. Which is exactly why recognizing a kluge, and how it might be improved upon, sometimes requires thinking outside the box. The best science, like the best engineering, often comes from understanding not just how things are, but how else they could have been.

As someone who's fairly well-read but not (as several other reviewers of this book) well-versed in the specialty of evolutionary biology, I found this book to be engaging, clear, and thought-provoking. I'd recommend this particularly to those interested in philosophy, psychology, computer programming, and the scientific method. What's most remarkable about this book is that although it delves deeply into many counter-intuitive qualities of human nature, it's utterly readable outside of an academic setting and offers practical advice on understanding of human failure and conflict.Marcus' basic premise, that the human mind is highly flawed from an "engineering" standpoint, is highly compelling (to be accurate- this premise is based on the research of evolutionary biologists and does not necessarily reflect any originality on Marcus' part). In chapters on Memory, Belief, Choice, Language, and Pleasure, the author attributes many of the foibles of human nature to deficiencies in the human mind based on the fact that culture, deliberate reasoning, and long-term planning (vs. reacting in the moment) did not offer survival advantages over the course of the human being's adaptive evolution. Just a few examples of potential weaknesses described include: 1) a contextual (vs. "postal code") memory resulting in an average of 55 minutes per day looking for things we know we own but can't find; 2) an inflated craving for sugar, fat, salt, and sex based on evolutionary scarcity; 3) a tendency to believe things that fit in with our pre-existing beliefs (i.e., confirmation bias); and 4) a tendency to respond to anecdotes vs. data.This book is interesting even from a purely philosophical perspective; for example, Marcus notes that "evolution didn't evolve us to be happy; it evolved us to pursue happiness"- hence humanity's often tragic and perpetual pursuit of material wealth far beyond necessity.Marcus doesn't shy away from prescribing ways to cope with these challenges, and devotes his entire closing chapter to "true wisdom" gained by self-consciousness of our minds' limitations. A few of his suggestions include "anticipate your own impulsivity and pre-commit" for example by choosing your groceries a week in advance and not when you are hungry; "don't make important decisions when you are tired or have other things on your mind." He also addresses more comprehensive and far-reaching strategies for addressing the problems of the human mind, such as offering high school classes on informal argument, spotting fallacies, interpreting statistics, and understanding the difference between correlation and causation. I couldn't agree more- but is that my confirmation bias?
Kluge a decent book with some interesting points, but overall I didn't think it offered any ground-breaking insights and was not particularly rigorously supported. I don't deny Marcus' main premise, that the brain is an imperfect kluge pieced together by natural selection and many of the traits we have do not promote happiness and wellbeing. But I think he underestimates the adaptive value (at least in a Darwinian sense) of some of the aspects of our brains. It's easy to overlook some subtle advantage of a trait and conclude it has no adaptive value. Gerd Gigerenzer's Gut Feelings: The Intelligence of the Unconscious, for instance, convincingly argues that many apparent reasoning errors are actually "highly intelligent social judgments" which are helpful overall in the real world (as opposed to a contrived logic puzzle, for instance).It's easy to propose an alternative design for some aspect of the human mind without any real way to test if humans would indeed be better off with it. For instance, Marcus says "in a system that was superlatively well engineered, belief and the process of drawing inferences (which soon become new beliefs) would be separate, with an iron wall between them." But it's not clear to me that this is the best system. Each time we see a bird flying, should we conclude gravity doesn't exist since we're drawing inferences without regard for pre-existing beliefs? Sometimes observations seem to contradict well-founded beliefs and resistance to changing those beliefs is not necessarily irrational or counterproductive (although sometimes it is). Are we better off in the end with some other system? Perhaps, but would our ancestors have been better off with that system in the Pleistocene? It's not as simple a question as Marcus makes it out to be.The original hardcover version of this book did not include the word "evolution" in the subtitle, and its after-the-fact addition to the paperback reflects the paucity of evolutionary information within. Marcus never really highlighted the crucial fact that our brains are adapted to the ancestral environment in which we evolved, which was in small bands of hunter/gatherers. Many aspects that are poorly designed for the modern world (our endless predilection for salty and fatty foods, for instance) may have been well adapted to life in the Pleistocene (where fat stores could be called upon during periodic food shortages). The same is true for all the hours we spend watching TV (perhaps a substitute for storytelling) or seeking non-procreative sex (sex and procreation, for the most part, could not be decoupled in the Pleistocene). While it remains true that these things are non-adaptive today (from a gene's point of view), it would have been enlightening to know that they were recently adaptive and not just evolutionary shortcomings, as Marcus suggests. He doesn't seem to be an expert on evolution; he mainly relies upon what he sees as imperfections of the modern mind in the modern world without much regard for the evolutionary history of those traits, and is quick to label them as evidence of a sloppy design.For instance, Marcus cites a study which concludes "teenagers may have an adult capacity to appreciate short-term gain, but only a child's capacity to recognize long-term risk" and concludes "evolutionary inertia takes precedence over sensible design." But isn't it possible that post-pubertal peer acceptance is a critical factor for reproductive success, and therefore reckless susceptibility to peer pressure during teenage years is an adaptation and not just some evolutionary mistake? Studies show that teens actually overestimate the dangers of the activities they partake in, yet they do them anyway to gain peer acceptance. And it plausibly increases their reproductive success to this day, despite contraception.To be fair, many of the traits described were just as maladaptive in the Pleistocene as they are today and many points remain valid.For great discussions of mental imperfections, I recommend How We Know What Isn't So: The Fallibility of Human Reason in Everyday Life and Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me): Why We Justify Foolish Beliefs, Bad Decisions, and Hurtful Acts). For a scientifically rigorous (and fairly technical) discussion of the evolutionary history of human mind, I recommend Melvin Konner's The Tangled Wing: Biological Constraints on the Human Spirit. Kluge also offers a brief and simplistic explanation of religion; for an account of the evolutionary origins of religion, I recommend Pascal Boyer's Religion Explained, or for a more technical and scholarly coverage of that subject, Scott Atran's In Gods We Trust: The Evolutionary Landscape of Religion (Evolution and Cognition Series).
Kluge is a very well-written and easy-to-read book by Gary Marcus explaining how evolution, similar to any other process, has led to both good and bad consequences. I highly recommend it to those who struggle to learn more about their intellectual and mental shortcomings. I consider it one of the best feedback anyone can get about his/her mental performance. The book can seriously help you put different things in their natural rather than exaggerated perspective.
Very thought provoking and a truly fun read
Good job in portraying how we (might have) evolved to be the interesting and confusing human beings we are today. I say might have, because really, who knows how we got here? It is just short of 5 stars because he spends a bit much on how we are not computers, holding them up as examples of "perfect memory". Before getting into this book, you might want to have at least some high-level overview of CUDA.The authors explain not only how to program in CUDA but also how to get the maximum performance out of the hardware. Issues such as branch divergence, uncoalesced memory, etc. are beautifully explained by means of coding examples. The authors also explain how to use NVIDIA profiling tools to assess the performance of your programs.On the other hand, I was somewhat surprised that the book goes deep into the Fermi (2.x) and Kepler (3.x) architectures, but has no mention of the latest Maxwell (5.x) architecture. I guess that's because the authors use Tesla GPUs (not the usual GeForce GT/GTX card), but anyway the code is portable across devices.I used a GeForce GTX 750 Ti and this required some minor adaptations. Since my card had only 2GB of memory, in those examples where the authors allocate 3 vectors of 1GB each, I simply ran out of memory. The fix was to use a smaller vector size, and things ran smoothly again. Also, since my card was a Maxwell, I used nvcc -arch=sm_50 to compile the code samples. Some minor warnings were easy to fix.Recommended for the serious/advanced programmer.
Very pleased with this. I use it along with the book by Sanders & Kandrot. I get to write working code for all the concepts. The diagrams are very helpful. The instructions for how to set up your system are so good that even though the book is for Linux I had no trouble using Windows instead. If you are a Windows user I would encourage you to still buy this book. Once you get into the subject the OS makes no difference. I appreciate how they provide code to verify and test what you are doing. There is a lot of discussion about optimization and you learn a lot experimenting. It is becoming one of those books that I'm marking with tons of notes and looking like an old shoe.
Before I buy a book I usually read the Introduction so I can figure out what audience the book is made for and whether it might be a good fit for me. In the introduction of this book, it says (among other possible audiences) that the book does not assume 'copious amounts of experience in C programming'. I'd say that was stretching it a little bit since it begins using pointers and bitwise operations in the second chapter. That said, as a relative newcomer to C programming (having used PHP, Java, and Python previously), I did not understand what those things were so it took a bit of learning on the side. I found that what worked for me was to grab a C Programming book, read a couple chapters into it to get a basic understanding, and then reference the appropriate chapters when I came across something new. Then I simply commented what I learned into the code so that I could look at it later and quickly be reminded what worked for me.All of that said - as a review for the book, I love it. It explains why some things are better than others, often down to the hardware level, which really helps to grasp the material. The examples work great and I usually input them and change some things around to make sure I get a solid understanding of it. I haven't yet got to it, but Chapter 8 goes over various libraries, with cuFFT being the one I'm particularly interested in - I count that as a big plus even if they're just basic introductions. Highly recommended!
Awesome book!!! easy to understand, code works way better and easier in VS2013 than the one in CUDA by example, also tried the code in OpenSuse 13.1 and it worked nicely in my 780m card, also the excersises are fun to try, I totally recomend this book!! note that its examples are mostly run in Linux, and is focused in Fermi and Kepler archs and the runtime API not the driver API

It really gets 4.5 stars.This is a nice primer to all the openings, without going deep into all the variation and theories. This shouldn't be a surprise: there are so many openings, and even more variations and sub-variations to each, that it would take well over a thousand pages to cover it all in detail. This is not the intention of this book. Rather, the goal is to introduce each opening, with main variations lines to each, and supplement it with basic explanatory prose. On this score, the book achieves what it sets out to do.The strong points of this book are primarily its prose and its organization. The prose is excellent. The author provides a nice mini history of each opening, in addition to a few sentences on the theory. He then gives main variations that are typically played, and explores each one, with a few sub-variations. Occasionally, he mentions the development of the opening variations through the years, who popularized them, who refuted them, who famously played them and etc. The prose is also sparkled here and there with some dry humor and witty commentary, which give this book a particular flavor (i.e. "this move is meant to make a knight on e2 look silly"; etc.).The other strong point of the book is its exceptional organization. It is easy to follow all the variations and sub-variations given, because the book is nicely organized to keep the reader focused and without going into long and distracting lines of analysis. All the main variation and sub-variation lines that the author highlights are in bold and the few variants of variations/sub-variations are in normal font.The weaker points of the book, IMO, are that the author doesn't often mention (though sometimes he does) the common traps that exist in the openings. And I also wish that more theoretical grounding was provided for the openings and its variations. To be sure, the author usually mentions a few sentences about the strengths and weaknesses of the openings, but never going much under the surface. Of course, great depth is not expected in a survey book of this sort; but some depth coverage would have been nice.This book is geared toward intermediate players, and perhaps as a refresher course to more advanced players. It would have no use for more seasoned masters of the game, and might be a little advanced for the early beginners.In conclusion, it's a solid primer for all the openings and provides a good introduction to each, thus serving as a starting point for further and deeper exploration of each particular opening and/or variation.
Very clear text and format, including the diagrams that are just right in terms of size and quantity. I'm very impressed by the logical flow too. It's not just a series of isolated openings, but is organized so there's a flow to the whole book. Perfect for a play like me -- lifelong amateur, never played a tournament or had a ranking, just trying to get a real comfort level with the first five or six moves of the game (though the text will also take you several moves,beyond if you are inclined). A real pleasure that doesn't feel like 'study' at all.
This has just about every opening you can think of. The author's writing is very colorful, and he makes it enjoyable to learn about each opening and its history (how it came into being, which GM's have used it most effectively, etc). I suppose this is a given, but definitely make sure you understand algebraic notation before diving into this. I went through most of this book with a physical chessboard set up beside me, so I could make the moves as each opening is explained. That really helped my learning from this book. Only thing is, this book can get a bit textbooky in parts, but that is to be expected, and only a minor gripe. Overall, highly recommended for anyone who wants to up their chess game!
This book is great for a Class A player who is trying to consolidate their openings knowledge before making a push to the next level of rating strength, and/or more in-depth openings study/preparation.This book could also be useful for a Class B player who is making a push in the study of openings. Also useful for an Expert or Master who never took a broad study of the openings by limiting themselves to a particular repertoire.
Without a doubt this is the best opening book to start with, and possibly the only one you might need for quite a while. Oh how I wish this had been available when I started out. What's the first thing a beginner does (ignoring all advice)? He starts surveying all the openings to find a few that he likes (and then changes his mind repeatedly). Before this book that involved buying a book on each opening, at great expense, both of money and time. That's no longer necessary - you can buy this one and get all you need for that purpose. It does expect some experience, but no more than any opening book does.The book reminds me alot of Watson's Mastering the Chess Openings, except that it's much broader and less deep. It's far less selective and sophisticated than Watson, but it's not superficial at all given the target audience. It gives very good explanations of the general themes, historical development, and early move orders of pretty much every opening you could want, although it does have a strong focus on mainlines. For a beginner or intermediate, this book will give you enough theory to get started - your first half dozen moves with some deviations - but not enough to distract you from tactics and endgames. Coaches should love it. I'm sure they would tell you it's all you need until you are an expert.The book is targeted at non-Masters. It's perfect for beginners to intermediates - I would say this is an essential book for beginner to Class C. Higher class players would still get a lot of value as a reference for unfamiliar openings they encounter and for broadening their repertoires, but I suspect an Expert would get diminished value from it. It has 450 some pages of large page size and has a huge amount of prose for each bit of analysis.I bought this expecting to be disappointed by superficiality, but I was wrong. After the fact, it's hard to imagine this book hasn't existed until now. Thank you Grandmaster van der Sterren. Thank you Gambit.Update: I find myself immersed in this thing all the time - it's addictive. I defy anybody in the target audience to read about their favorite opening and not learn something.

This text is an awesome accessory or solo book for learning about local anesthetics, techniques and for a dental hygienist taking the local anesthetic certification course. Our class required Mahlmeds text, but I am glad I purchased this as a resource. I wish it could have been the standard text for the class. It has a great feel -softcover, not too thick and easy to highlite notes in, it fit in my tote bag making it easy to carry around. I was nervous about taking on the task of learning to administer anesthetics after being out of college ahem...25+ years this book greatly took the pressure off. I found reading it to flow well. The book offers great charts, full color photos and every chapter has a nice 20 question review test and scenario question. I found there was much more compiled colored reference pages than the required class text. The section on injections were much more detailed in step by step with photos and instructor an Oral Surgeon agreed the needle angles during injection photos shown were much more accurate than class text. The publisher also has a companion website to receive end chapter answers, and mock tests.It was a great companion rescource while studying for class. I would first read this book, then required class text. Halfway through I would just skim our class text as I found out this author covered it better and much more easy to understand. Oh, an awesome thing -the index in the back seemed so intuitive- when I thought of a topic I needed to get an answer to, or locate in book -it usually did not fail me vs class text was less than steller results. I just finished taking the NERB Local Anesthetic exam, awaiting results and feel this book made me much more confident in taking it and helping me pass.Local Anesthesia for the Dental Hygienist, 1e
I just took the NERB for Local Anesthesia and I got a 90%. This book was really helpful. For the class I took, we were to get Malamed's book, which I only read certain chapters and skimmed others. What I loved about Local Anesthesia for the Dental Hygienist was the tests at the end of each chapter and the website for more practice tests on the computer which were free with the purchase of this book. There were case studies also. I felt I learned it better with the test questions, Malamed's book didn't have any tests at the end of the chapters. Yes, there were errors in this book, and a few of the answers to some test questions were wrong. I did e-mail the author and she said she would have them changed, but I haven't seen the changes yet. So what I did was read this whole book first, taking all the tests in the book and online. I skimmed Malamed's book, and when I took the class, I felt like a really knew the material, I believe from taking the tests, it helps you learn it so much better, it makes you look up more things. Anyone wondering if this purchase is worth it, it is!
I have recently taken the local anesthesia and pain control course for dental hygienists. Our required textbook was Malameds. Upon research I noticed that many hygienists were also purchasing this book. I did the same and am so happy I have. It contains the same material as Malamed but in a language that dental hygienists can comprehend so easily. It includes case studies, easy to understand graphs and equations, and has test questions after each chapter. The only downside is that I could never access the online material the book claims you have access to with the purchase of the book. Two of the instructors that taught my course also reviewed this book. They are considering changing the required text to this textbook at next years local anesthesia course.
I purchased this book for a class. So far, it is packed with information.
I am a dental hygiene instructor and and my colleagues and I chose this book because it was recommended by other course members. It seems to be the source for educating us for certification. Logethetis has done a fine job on giving us what is needed to pass the written. The author or publisher needs a good proofreader; too many errors in spelling. My favorite portion of each chapter is the Dental Hygiene "need to know" section.

This book is perfect for local anethesia. The material is presented very well and easily understandable. The online material is helpful for the quizzes and further understanding the concepts. This book will certainly help prepare one for boards.I'm currently taking her course and was told that Chapter 8 is no longer relevant for the calculations due to the new WREB recommendations. Her new addition will be updated to accommodate these changes.

I can't even begin to address the power of this book. I also purchased Dr Tony Evans book for Married Men Only. The two books go hand in hand (no pun intended). I was 2 weeks from finalizing my divorce with my wife, NO JOKE. The combination of the truth that I was able to pull from these two books really helped set me in a different mind set. If you are struggling in your marriage with your wife, these books are fantastic for the man to work on his end. if you have a wonderful marriage already, I don't see how reading these books won't help you have an even more amazing relationship. Oh and these books finally answer the age old statement that most of us have absolutely no idea what it means... to love your wife as Jesus Loves the church. The understanding you will get from that statement will set your marriage on a whole new level. I intend on reading and re-reading these books for years to come. I am so thankful to have heard about these books on Christian radio in my car. The timing was impeccable... as God's timing always is! Oh and you should know that a week later, after reaching back out to my wife, I called my attorney and cancelled my divorce proceedings and began working my building up my marriage.
Another fantastic book by Dr. Evans! After a heart wrenching infidelity issue, I was at my bitter end. I had sunk into a deep depression and felt nowhere to turn. Church was helpful but couldn't cure my hurt and bitterness completely. Tony's books Kingdom Woman and Kingdom Marriage have opened my eyes and for the first time in over 9 months I feel love for my husband and ready to start anew. This book probably saved my marriage and myself. Thank you Dr. Evans for being the voice I needed to hear and the rationalization that not only makes sense but goes directly to my heart! I can't wait to read more of his books! â¤ï¸

I'm almost done reading this book. It is an eye opener in how we need to live our life and treat our spouse. It's an easy read, and I've gained some really good insight with this book and hope to do this as a small group study.
Excellent book. This book was recommended by a friend anf I really love it. It gives you a better idea of how a Godly and lasting marriage should work out. My favorite part is that it quotes the bible in relation to what it says. Tony Evans is awesome at relaying messages about becoming a better Christian. I would recommened this book to even single people. It gives you the idea of what to look for in a relationship so while dating you will make better choices on who to marry.
We've tried counseling and many other things but this was the book that TRULY made a difference. It helps you to focus on your own shortcomings (not your spouse's) and seek God to change them. Until you are willing to point the finger at yourself and accept what you need to change, you will not see a difference.
Tony hits a home run with this book. My wife and I have re-aligned our roles in marriage because of this insightful read! Biblical advice that transcends worldly advice to be selfish and only care about my happiness. This book will save many marriages!!

Great recipes using easy to find ingredients and this is an amazing cookbook because the author had done a wonderful job of simplifying authentic Indian recipes in IP version with using only easily available ingredients for spices and the results are very fulfilling and I learned how to make your own fresh masala and use it and just the rich aroma of fresh cooked meal in the kitchen and then awesome tastier Indian dish and I did recently discover thanks to a friend that I love Chicken Tikka Masala! It may not be traditionally Indian, but it introduced me to the flavor profile that I love and naturally it was the first recipe I tried from this book and it was fabulous and so easy to make! I love that the book starts out with a section on the kitchen staples you will need to make most of the recipes in the book! So helpful! and then it dives right in to recipes that have been tested and proven to work well in the Instant Pot! and the Chicken Vindaloo and Butter Chicken are also favorites of mine now! It also contains quite an extensive section on vegetarian dishes, and side dishes of beans and rice! I was quite surprised and impressed with the dessert section as well and the Indian Rice Pudding is amazing abd i am still learning about Indian cuisine, but with this book it seems less daunting and much easier to accomplish.

I think i will enjoy all these Indian recipes since i love spicy foods, that is what their dishes are known for. This cookbook has a great collection of new and unique Indian dishes that are match with the amazing Instant pot. You will also discover the nutritional and medicinal properties of each spice they are using. Love it.
I enjoyed the Indian instant pot recipes here. Most of them are traditional recipes made easier. Who wouldn't enjoy Indian spices? I love how each recipes as incorporated spices. There are lots of different ways to cook curry too. I hope I will get separate slow cooker and pressure cooker recipes too. Thumbs up!
