Book has beautiful illustrations, but I was very surprised by one of the pages. See attached pic. I’mnot ready to explain gay marriage to my 6 year old.
I gave this book to my grandchildren because I am a quilter, and love to bestow my quilts on those I love. I understand it's meaning and message, and hate to give it a bad review, but be warned. My grandchildren were in tears after the 2nd Grandma died. Not for sensitive children who love their grandmas.
The original version of this book is wonderful. It was a favorite read aloud story of my elementary students and myself for years. When I ordered copies of the 25th edition for my grandchildren I was not aware that the original was changed. I will not read this version to my grandchildren because of the ending.
my daughter in law who is having a baby is Jewish. i made a quilt for the baby and i tucked this book in with it. it was perfect accompaniment. the story is beautifully told...about family, traditions, and the circle of life. the quilt was made with clothing from the family members "basket of clothes". the quilt is then handed down through the generations...becoming a part of the important celebrations...from wedding canopies, to tablecloths for the sabbath dinner, to wrapping a new baby within it's love. the book was poignant...and i hope my quilt will be passed down through the generations as well as it surrounds her with love throughout the years..
Beautiful story of the love and traditions woven throughout a family's generations. This book is illustrated in a way that invites the reader into their family. What a wonderful book,,,a treasure!
This book inspired me to create a quilt for a friend's daughter whose wedding is in January. I have asked the members of her family and friends to contribute to the quilt and I have a friend who is a quilter. So, yes, I enjoyed this sweet little book.
Patricia Polacco is one of the greatest storytellers of our generation. She has put down snippets of not only her life, but of her ancestors, into delightful stories that transcends all age groups. THE KEEPING QUILT is about Polacco's Great-Grandmother Anna, who immigrated to New York City. The only two things that she still owned from her native Russia were her dress and a babushka. Anna's mother eventually takes parts of her dress and babushka along with old clothes belonging to other relatives and makes a quilt that will remind everyone of their homeland. This quilt serves as a source of comfort and memories for future generations. This is another book that I bought my daughter for her birthday. She will read this book to her second graders perhaps inspiring a new generation to write down the memories of the past.
The book was in good condition. The story is good, too. There four quilters in our family. My mother's quilts had stories in them. So I love the book.

I have owned this text for some time and I find it very informative as it covers a great deal of subjects. A review of the table of contents will give an indication of the material covered. The book is not only valuable to graphics programmers but engineers in other disciplines looking for a good approach for solving various geometric problems.A previous reviewer complained about the notation being "non-standard". The book was written for someone with a mathematical background to include a sound background in vector algebra, geometry and matrix operations. The notation used is in explaining the mathematics behind the solution to a problem is standard >mathematical< notation. If you don't have a background in these areas of mathematics, then you may have a problem understanding it. But fortunately, there are many inexpensive books on those subjects available for purchase that can get you quickly up to speed.The code is written in the C language. Typically, code is provided only for a specific algorithm (problem being solved). Complete applications that give examples of using the algorithm implementation aren't provided as this is beyond the scope of the book. The scope of the book is to teach you how to solve specific mathematical problems of interest. Not to teach you the many different ways that mathematical solution may be employed in all genres of programming.The reason that I failed to give this book a 5-star rating is due to the many errors in the text. There was an impressive (to put it kindly) list of errata published on line for the initial printing. The 2nd printing of the text (and how do you know on Amazon if it is a 2nd printing?) is supposed to have most of the errors corrected. However, since the 2nd printing, errors continue to be reported. A complete list of the errata for this book is available at the web site [...].Having experience in writing many complex technical works, I can say that it takes great dilligence and peer review to capture errors in an intense tecnicaly work such as this book. While this book seems to have excessive errors in it, this type of problem is common with most publishers. There simply isn't enough effort/expense put into having a sufficient number of qualified technical people to review the work and look for errors overlooked by the authors. And believe me, quality peer reviews are necessary for complex technical works such as this one with mathematics on virtually every page. So I do agree with a previous reviewer that you should be cautious at taking the solution/implementation of a mathematical problem from this book at "face value" without questioning if it is correct for all possible test cases. Test and verify the solution.Given the above comments, I would still recommend this text as it covers so many different topics and problems encountered in 2D and 3D geometry. This book is valuable to many engineers other that programmers working in graphics or game development.But I would like to see a re-print that has been 100% thoroughly peer reviewed by **mathematicians**, the algorithm implementations analyzed for correctness and an error-free copy printed.
Many of Mr. Eberly's books leave me dazed and confused. His Game Physics book, though quite useful, is so wedded to the Wild Magic framework that I felt like learning that framework became the task at hand rather than trying to learn underlying algorithms.This book is different, because it is organized as a collection of tools. Each tool is pretty much independent of all the others, so you can see via the figures what Mr. Eberly is trying to accomplish, read the accompanying text and equations, and then read his pseudocode to understand what you need to do in whatever programming language you are trying to do it in. You can, in most cases, just lift out the algorithm/tool you need. This is the beauty of the book.The first three or so chapters are dedicated to giving you a quick brush-up in the underlying math, primarily linear algebra. They are useful if you just need to remember something you have already learned at some point, but it is not detailed enough to teach you from scratch.In short, this is an excellent book on the algorithms needed for the implementation of computer graphics tasks in both two and three dimensions if you already have a good big-picture understanding of computer graphics and a detailed understanding of the mathematics commonly used in such tasks.
Pretty decent book and a source for Geometric Tools C++ library. The section on splines, b-splines is pretty decent and easy to follow.
I almost gave this book 2 stars but decided that punishing the authors for my stupidity wasn't fair. This book is obviously chucked full of just about every geometric formula you will ever need in computer graphics. But you had better be a darn serious mathematician! I could simply never grasp mathematics at this level. I could never look at those formulas, written in some alien heiroglyphs, and understand them enough to translate them into code. This book is one of those "Written by Professors for Professors." I bought the book because of the reviews that wrote about the code samples. Well, they are there (pseudo-code, but that is better than nothing) but nowhere near what I was expecting. My mistake was thinking it was a programming book. It's not! Bottom line, if you are looking for computer graphics formulas and understand mathematics, this book is for you. If you are a programmer and are expecting a computer graphics library of functions, look somewhere else.

Unfortunately, the recent Berenstain Bears books have a religious message that ruin an otherwise perfectly useful lesson. We refuse to purchase the ones that mention the Bible or "god," and we skip over those parts when we check them out of the library.The story is otherwise somewhat illustrative of how gossip can be harmful, but it lacks the impact of the original Berenstain Bears stories.
The truth of Gossip is that it separates close friends. This is not only a good lesson for the kids but also for adults. I love how it elaborates the Bible verse with simple story. A must buy!

However, Evie's interests begin to change after she meets Patsy, daughter of the town's leading citizen, at home only for a rare break between boarding school and summer camp. Suddenly Evie's listening to "women's music," taking off on the weekends for "lunch" with Patsy, and wearing the expensive man-tailored clothing Patsy has given her. In vain Mrs. Burrman tries to set Evie up with a smitten hired hand named Cord, and exhorts her to "fix herself up" and wear more feminine clothing. A drunken attempt by Parr and Cord to expose the girls' relationship backfires and causes Evie to run away to New York. M.E. Kerr has a knack for writing touching books about controversial topics that treat the subjects and main characters with kindness. This is such a great book about what it's like to be LGBTQ, the stigma associated with it, and how it is not a choice. Kerr masterfully makes the argument that just as heterosexual people don't choose who they love, neither do those who have different sexual orientations. She also does a beautiful job of bringing a family's struggle to accept their daughter as she is, and the mentality of a small rural town. It's impossible not to like the family, especially Evie, who, though the butt of endless criticism and cruelty, is the kindest, gentlest, and most emotionally generous character. The book says Evie doesn't Harv a mean bone in her body, and she doesn't. It provides a stark contrast to the abuse and harassment she endures simply for live her life honestly, be herself, and love who she loves. There are tragic and comic moments, and I've re-read this book so many times. It's one in a million. Don't miss out.
I read this many years ago and thought it was good back then. This time I bought it for a friend.
Honestly I did not know what to expect from this book, but once i read the first pasge- i was hooked. The language in this story depicts the typical farmer-simple and straightforward, which i would like to see as a good thing.Also, the characters are well-developed, completely believable and totally unique...not to mention the plot, theres more than the stereotypical love story in here.this book i believe can and will continue to stand the test against time. and i know why after reading this...

Awesome book
I enjoyed this book for many reasons, and I think the biggest reason of all was the clearly depicted struggle of identity that everyone goes through. Yes, this book is about the main character's lesbian sister and the effects that it has on his family and the members of the small community that they live in, but it's also about much more than that. Throughout the story the main character and the members of his family struggle with who they are, who they want to be, and who they are expected to be. In that aspect, this is a very easy story to relate to no matter what your situation and is absolutely worth reading.
Evie has always been different from most other people in her world. She lives on a farm with her parents and her two brothers, and despite her mother's best efforts she refuses to be more feminine. Her brothers Doug and Parr defend her the best that they can and everyone else in the family ignores her strange dress and actions. She is set to inherit the family's farm with Doug, allowing Parr to escape to college and to a life without farming.While Doug is away at college, Evie and Parr meet Patsy at a party. Patsy's father is an important banker in the community and has an incredible amount of power. Without Patsy's father's knowledge, Evie and Patsy begin spending a lot of time together. It becomes clear to Parr that Evie and Patsy are gay and have started dating each other. He is upset because Evie isn't doing as much around the farm anymore, and he worries that she will leave, forcing him to take over in her place.Others in the community, including Patsy's father, are upset about the fact that the girls are lesbians. Nasty things are said to them and about them, and Patsy's father blames Evie for corrupting his daughter. Evie, though, has never been happier. Can her relationship with Patsy survive all of the obstacles in the way?I liked that Evie was so true to herself and didn't care what others had to say about her. This story lacked much of the angst that stories about gay teenagers often have. I would have liked to have seen things from Evie's point of view, though, to get a more well rounded idea of what she was really experiencing, rather than just hearing about it from Parr.

Out of the three children she was the one who knew how to fix many of the mechanic things though she was the girl. She dressed like a man and was a loner. Her parents especially her mother knew she was different but tried to change her. The mother thought that inviting over Cord (a boy who liked her) trying to get her to dress more womanly would change her. Everything comes full circle when the banker's daughter started befriended Evie. Parr from his narration conveys the feelings of the family especially how the mom and dad knew this was no ordinary girlfriend friendship. Parr discusses what happens when the relationship becomes known and how he and the family deal with the neighbors when rumors begin to flow. The book not only touches on Evie situation but Doug (the oldest son) going off to college and eventually deciding not taking up a life on the farm and Parr wrestling with guilt of not wanting the farm life and his coming of age with a relationship with a young lady name Angel. I think it is a great book for teens who may also be going through feelings like Evie or not sure of how they feel.

Mr. Nosey is horrifying! I instantly returned this book once I was able to read the entire thing. I cannot believe people think this story is okay. I’m pro original Hans Christian Anderson tales, gore and all, but this story is terrible. Cutting off someone’s nose because you think they’re annoying? What lesson is this supposed to teach? That it’s okay to be violent towards people that annoy you?
The Little Miss: Pocket Library was a bit disappointing. Each book is about 5 pages. They are not stories; more like bios of each character. Not what I was looking for.To be fair, the books are good quality (very small board books). I just wished there was more to them.
This book (Mr Dizzy) is missing pages (deliberately). The writing has been merged and pictures removed. It seems this kind of thing is also concealed by the fact that reviews are not of individual products. Note, this is not a review of the story, but I don't think that matters as the reviews are all merged anyway.
My Son just loves this book! He lost his first one, so this was a replacement. The whole book collection is worth while, I consider the humor just a little more to an adult level, not in a R rated version. Parent's will get a kick out of this book also.
I should have read the details better. These are tiny board books with very little writing. Was trying to get a Miss set to go with my daughters Men. She is 6 and like them, but it's not much ready for her. These are baby books.
Mr. Greedy LOVES food! What he eats for breakfast would feed our whole family and more. No sooner has he finished breakfast then he starts thinking about lunch! Out on a walk, he comes across the giant's house and the delicious meal waiting on the table - sausages the size of pillows, peas the size of cabbages etc! The giant has him sussed and decides to teach him a lesson. (Reminds me of Bruce Bogtrotter with the chocolate cake in Matilda.) Is there maybe a better way to teach your child not to eat as much? Yes! BUT the lesson here is that Mr. Greedy did indeed learn his lesson, kept his promise not to be greedy ever again thereby gaining control over his original lack of self-control and ended up looking much better for it.A great book for all ages!
Mr. Grumble is as you can guess by his name, GRUMPY! When his alarm clock goes off in the morning he says, "Bah! It's the start of yet another horrible day!"Hmm... how to cure him? Well, a wizard comes along who doesn't "like people who are constantly grumbling and moaning." What does he do? He turns Mr. Grumble into a little pig! As you read on through the story, you will read how each time Mr. Grumble grumbles he becomes a larger and larger pig? Does this cure him? You'll have to read to find out!
I loved these books when I was three and now my three year old loves them too. I'm so glad they are still in print and easy to find. Something about these simple colorful illustrations and fantastical stories really captures the attention of children ages 3-5. Added the little miss collection to my daughters Christmas list :)

This book will be helpful to a hobbyist blacksmith who has never searched youtube or google. The content is kind of out-dated at best - now let me pause here - blacksmithing is pretty outdated as well but what I mean is the projects a modern blacksmith would be looking for insight on will likely not be found in this book's pages. It's a book from another time. Some things were helpful to me but honestly most of it can be found on google or youtube rather quickly. I don't necessarily regret my purchase but there were only a few tidbits of info that I found truly helpful and not just simply repetitious from other blacksmithing books I had already purchased.
This is far more than a single person explaining the fine points of the trade. It's assemble from years of "letters to the editor" from scores of smiths to a (then) magazine called Practical Blacksmithing. The book is FULL of tips and tricks passed along from working smiths - who were sharing arcane techniques with the magazine's readers. The century old advice is a godsend to the modern blacksmith / artist / metalworker: Forging - Tempering - Tool design and Repair. The steel engraved illustrations are abundantly clear.
This book is a classic, with lots of great shop knowledge and technique in it from the days when hack saws were the latest thing. I've had a copy since the 70s, but I recently got a copy for a student just learning medieval armor making.
This is first of all an interesting period piece, as it was compiled and originally published between 1889-91, but more that that it is written and presented in a very accessible form for modern-day readers that is, at times, entertaining as well as informative. It gives a broad overview of the entire smithy occupation of the era, as well as descriptions and many drawings of a great number of the tools, fixtures, different shop layouts, etc., as well as describing the associated supplies and methods used, and while it often includes directions for doing a job, it sometimes goes further and explains WHY certain things are to be done in a particular order. A single one of these tidbits can be well worth the book's purchase price for practicing tradespeople.Much of the book, especially that which concerns the many projects, work set-ups, etc., is gleaned from articles originally presented in the trade magazine "The Blacksmith and Wheelwright" and as such the wide range of pertinent information within this field that was collected within this narrow slice of time would have been extremely difficult to obtain, organize, and accurately present it within the constraints of the then-current limits of technology at this late date-had they not been preserved in this manner.As an aside, many of these articles were submitted by the magazine's readers as well as the staff writers, they present widely varied viewpoints and sometimes several diferent approaches to solving a particular problem, something that would have been unlikely to have happened if a single writer, no matter how long-experienced and well-versed in the trade he (or she) might have been, had written the entire collection.
I enjoyed going through the chapters - found less on bellows construction than I wanted - found far more informative material on topics that I knew little about. A lifetime as an Industrial Arts/Technology Teacher, volunteer Blacksmith in an Erie Canal Setting 1800's, and currently volunteering in a Revolutionary War Fort setting. I am always researching material that will allow me to be period correct. This reference book will be a big asset.
First of all, this book arrrived from the distributor way ahead of shcedule. In fact, if I recall correctly I ordered on a Thursda and the book was on my door step Saturday. The condition of the book was spot on to the description that was given by the seller and met ever expectation that I had. The pages were near prestine with a slight patina and scent, which fit the image that I had been looking for.I am thrilled to no end and can hardly wait to delve into the content of this book!
