We are studying this book for our Women's Bible Study group. Everyone in the group has expressed how much they are learning from it. We realize that we all have fears. We just need some help to control it, and this book is doing just that.
Adam Hamilton has a friendly, relatable style of writing that mirrors his popular sermons. He explains all aspects of fear and anxiety while using personal examples. His manner of self-disclosure is humble and somewhat disarming for someone as successful as he is. Adam adds value to the acronym for FEAR with his common sense way of addressing it: Face your fears with faith, Examine your assumptions in light of the facts, Attack your anxieties with action, and Release your cares to God. This book is spot-on in assessing a lot of our current fears as a society, but where it spoke to me was in the insightful way of taking action. He weaves faith and cognitive therapy together in an eminently readable manner. I highly recommend that you read this book, particularly if you are struggling with fear or anxiety.
Adam Hamilton never disappoints. He has a way of explaining the Christian faith in logical, hopeful, and beautiful ways. If you have read his other books, you will see concepts that overlap, but Adam is able to bring new meaning to previous ideas he has already written about by providing insightful and informed thoughts related to fear. What is great about this book is that it does not just speak to Christians or people of faith, but to anyone and everyone who may at times, find themselves afraid of the future and what it may hold.
Once again, Adam Hamilton writes simply yet profoundly about something that touches everyone in many ways.....fear. He describes different fears and talks about ways of handling those fears, while reminding the reader throughout the book that God will take away all our fears if we let Him into our lives.
Having lived with fear of all kinds, this book has helped me put a method to the practice of overcoming fear. While fears still exist, I've learned new ways to manage them, hence living a happier, more centered life focused on God's love for me and how He responded to those in the Bible who suffered with fear as well. This book starts out good but soon gets into a judgemental stance..........almost debating outside opinions of other religions and beliefs. i would not recommend it to anyone who has a narrow view of Christianity.

Eye opening and will make you chuckle.
I collect books by Oregon authors and written about Oregon history, and especially enjoy first person accounts.
