I absolutely love the way this is set up- it describes the pose first, and then names it with a cute little bit about the animal. Very fun. The illustrations are great as well.
What a great book! We purchased for our nieces since they love doing yoga with me. They really enjoyed doing the poses while I read the book. I love this idea!! The book was illustrated nicely. I was impressed and would definitely recommend. (Also, it's simple enough that kids can easily follow along if they have never done yoga poses before.)
Such a great introduction for young children to yoga. My 20 month old can quite move his body in all the positions but does enjoy making the animal noises and imitating the children when he can. We'll be using this for years to come as his gross motor skills improve.
This is a great little book with beautiful illustrations and the delivery of the poses in terms of the build up to them, the instruction for the poses, and the way the page turns to the final pose with it's name. Delightful and artful! I highly recommend!
My 1st grade Daisy Girl Scout Troop loved this book! They loved imitating the characters posing in the book, and they enjoyed guessing which animal each character was posing like before I turned the page and revealed it. Very big hit with the 6-7 year old girls.
Great book for young yogis (2-4 years) I use for kids yoga to show the kids the poses and act out. 4 or 5 poses are outlined In the book.
I have been doing this with my son for the past 4 months (he is almost 2) and he LOVES it. We get on our mats and read the book and do the poses. He will go get the book and bring it to me when he wants to do yoga.
My son really got into practicing his yoga moves after we read this a few times. We haven't read it in a while, though, which tells me it isn't his favorite. We HAVE read The Little Red Fish by Tae-Eun Yoo many, many times, so go get that one, too!

Smoke jumpers, those that fight wildfires with specialty training and parachute jumping, is the setting for this story.The story opens with a smoke jumper and her jump partner falling from the sky on a fire. As she looks back at her partner she see's him pull his toggle in the wrong direction, which sends him into the bowels of the fire, where he is killed.The following summer, as the wildfire season begins, there is trouble between the female partner of the jumper that was killed and his dating fling, and her baby.There are several incidents where the smoke jumpers are placed in dangerous situations in and around the base camp. And then a fire is reported in a forest close to base and a murder has occurred.The story continues until the equipment used for fighting fires is tampered with and they are put in danger in a fire.The smoke jumpers continue fighting wildfires with a twist on the final fire.This author again demonstrates her ability to learn the correct language and procedures for fighting wildfires and she completes a love story between firefighting incidents and keeps the readers attention on the characters as they go through this different summer. She also interposesa secondary love story and connects the events so that the reader is rewarded with an exciting story line and is able to follow through the entire book without loosing their place and to remain enthralled with the story line.
Such a refreshing and entertaining reading:1. I've never read a book about smoke jumpers, so I loved getting immersed in their foreign-to-me world.2. The main romance between Rowan & Gull was an absolute delight to read thanks to the lack of clichés. Every now and then I have enjoyed them in romance books, but a couple who communicates their feelings and thoughts will always be a winner for me. No need to use third parties or innecessary denials to stop them from getting their HEA.3. The romance subplot didn't bore me, and it usually does when it's not about the main couple.What stops this from being a perfect reading:The long descriptions about the missions got tiresome. I get being told once or twice about them, but there were many missions, so to read the technical talk over and over and over again was exhausting. (Although thankfully not as much as the one in the Inn BoonsBoro trilogy.)***OVERALLChasing Fire is another Nora Roberts winner. Too bad it isn't part of a series, would've loved to see every one of them getting a HEA like Rowan and Gull.
3.5'Key of Valour' takes us to the last quest to find the third key. It's Zoe's turn and she's gonna have to find the courage to trust her heart and go for what she wants.I had an absolutely wonderful time getting to see Zoe and Brad falling in love even though Zoe did annoy me in the last chapters because she didn't want to accept what she felt (and what Brad felt for her). I felt it took her so long to accept her feelings and it frustrated me. But I loved Brad because he had a lot of patience with her.And speaking about Brad, he was a sweetheart! My favorite parts of this book definitely include his scenes with Simon. It was a pleasure getting to see man and boy loving each other. The only issue I had with one of the scenes is that a couple of dialogues were a copy of one of Nora Robert's books: Sea Swept. It is my favorite book from her. I've read it plenty of times so as soon as I saw the dialogues I knew where it came from. It bothered me and I wish it could've been said different.But keeping that aside, I liked there were barely sexist comments. And I liked seeing more of Flynn, Malory, Dana and Jordan, too.The climax with Kane wasn't as interesting as book 2. I was definitely expecting something bigger. But in the end, I'm just glad the villain was vanquished and Rowena and Pitte got to finally have their HEA. I even cried with that part and it was my favorite moment from the whole book.*OVERALL:The last book in the Key trilogy was an interesting and great conclusion.The series as a whole was a pleasure to read because it has the essence of Nora's oldest series. Sure, I've enjoyed her new ones but there is nothing like her old and classy. There's something about the writing and characters that stand out from the more recent ones.If you're looking for a series about love, friendship, family (and you don't mind a couple of sexist comments here and there) this is the series for you.

And in Salem, they persecuted and murdered blindly, so blindly that not one of the nineteen souls they took was the soul of a witch.â€"Prejudice and fear are never clear-sighted.â€â€œShe wouldn’t if you weren’t trying to push your psychic hooey on her.""'Psychic hooey’ sounds like the name of a second-rate rock band and has nothing to do with what I am. But even that’s better than blind, stubborn denial. Knowledge is always better than ignorance.â€I will re-read this story and look forward to other works by this author.

This is an excellent account of the post-punk years that would have been much excellenter had the three chapters cut from this version been included...The Devoto/Subway Sect chapter,the Conform to Deform Second Wave of Industrial chapter,and the SST/Blasting Concept chapter.Finding this out after the fact really irked me, because Magazine is probably my favorite band, and because both SST and second-wave industrial represent a huge part of the California post-punk experience - which makes it all the more inexplicable why these particular chapters were purged from the American version.Also, it's criminal that there's absolutely no mention of Spizzenergi - one of the great post-punk bands of all time!Oh, and I could've done without the lame ending chapter on ZTT/Frankie. I understand what he's getting at with the whole "gay sexual expression is the last frontier" idea, but what Frankie did had already been done before - much better in fact - by The Village People in the 70's.A GREAT book - don't get me wrong - but do check out the full UK version, especially if you like Magazine.
A great, fun read. As a professor I teach a course on popular music, and I often assign students Reynolds' work. The reason is that he writes like he is having a chat with the reader like a chum: he discloses personal stuff, he's a human, he admits what his limits are, he just writes to readers like he's a journalist with feelings. This is a smart and enjoyable book. it will introduce you to some bands you didn't know about, and dive into some particulars from those you do. But above all, Reynolds honest voice is what hooks you---he writes like he's sitting on your couch in your living room. I know some folks want a more "objective" tone, but I think his approach to writing is perfect for what he is writing about. He's sorta the counterpoint to Simon Frith, who is much more aloof and, I think, clueless . . . . This is a good book for folks interested in postpunk or who grew up in the 80s. I just adore Reynolds honesty and enthusiasm for the music he writes about.
I wasn't a big fan of many of the bands in this history, even though it covers all my teenage years, and I was definitely into music then. But I loved many bands that came before and after them, so I thought it would be good to know about the 'bridges' between. The book is very well written and thorough, and written from a UK and European perspective that differs from my own of the time. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it filled in some gaps in my knowledge, and prompted me to go back and relisten to some old favorites, maybe even make a new one or two.
Let me admit right up front that I am not a fan of 95% of the music chronicled in this book. But several of my friends are, so I thought I'd dip into it to see if it would make a nice gift. With that in mind, I read the one chapter that covers music I really love, the chapter about the rapid rise and fall of the 2-Tone ska movement. Those twenty pages were enough to convince me that Reynolds is best kind of music writer, able to write evocatively about the music itself while providing the social, economic, and political context for its creation. He hits the nail firmly on the head in his analysis of The Specials' songs as "cheerless" -- tying them to social-realist cinema and the bleak post-WWII concrete jungle of their native Coventry. Reynolds also does a nice job of describing the origins of ska, it's development in England, and rather complicated ties to the mod and skinhead subcultures. He's also brimming with details about the major bands and why it all fell apart so quickly. Two quibbles do present themselves. One is that some of the transitions are a bit choppy, and I later learned that the US edition I read is an abridged version of the UK edition (nowhere is this obviously stated on the US edition). Some 300+ pages were cut, which would explain some of the choppiness I found, and I have to say that I'll be buying the more expensive UK version for my friends. The second reservation I have with the book is the total lack of documentation. It's great to quote Dammers, Hall, Staple, and all these other musicians, but it would be nice to know where these quotes came from so that one could do follow-up reading or research -- there's not even a bibliography! These cavaets of abrdigement and referencing aside, this appears to be an excellent, well-written account of an overlooked era of music history and should stand as the definitive work for many years to come.
Apparently, the US version is ~200 pages less than the UK version (which was the first copy I read). Though it seems rather blasphemous to excise chapters/portions about Einsturzende Neubauten, SST Records, Magazine, and (reducing) The Buzzcocks, I think it could also be argued that it streamlined the narrative (how punk influenced post-punk which was then co-opted into the mainstream), even if reading about those other acts/labels was interesting. The UK version was definitely enjoyable, but I felt it was a little bloated (i.e. following up the formation of PiL with... some guy who has a cult following, even by the standards of others in this book) My only real complaint is that I would've switched the last two chapters around. (Frankie Goes to Hollywood and the Goth/Neo-psychedelia chapters, respectively)I was a bit annoyed that SST were barely mentioned in the UK version, and excised entirely from the US version, but in retrospect it makes more sense as they didn't really fit into the above narrative (at least in the years covered. "Michael Azerrad's "Our Band Could Be Your Life" covers them, among others, more succinctly). So in all, it's definitely a great book, even if it does leave out otherwise interesting acts.
This has been one of my favorite books for years. Simon Reynolds finds a way to tie the disparate threads of independent experimentation and unbridled newness of the Postpunk era (1978-1984, formally) into an acceptable narrative thread that's as engaging as it is informative. I cannot recommend this book any higher.

At 19 yrs. old it never struck me then what heroes the combat pilots really were until I started reading several books over the past couple of years. This book is the best I've read on this. Short chapters/stories detailing specific missions. Anyone interested in air combat, VN war, honor, duty heroism, should read this. EVERYONE, should read the speech/chapter on Col. Leo Thorsness.Thank You Col. Ridnouer for your service and this great book.
Basically it is a collection, and a rather disjointed collection, of anecdotes about the air war. It provides a lot of information about the air war I didn't know, but there is no real overall vision or strategic assessment -- it's a book of collected war stories. Makes for interesting reading, but not much insights.
This follow-on account from an earlier book continues the wealth of experiences from the Vietnam War. Despite some editing deficiencies, the stories are riveting and easy to follow. Worth the time to read.

They were brave, innovative survivors and courageous men some of whom were killed or floated on silk into the Hanoi Hilton.The two best stories are from Angel ??? who ran the O’Club and from a participant in the Ton Say raid. Holy-O-Smokstacks. The book is worth it for those two stories.
Having been a Marine on the ground in 1967, I knew nothing about the men who provided air support when called to save our asses from overwhelming enemy forces. This book reveals the quality of men who flew all the aircraft in the Vietnam War and I am in awe of their service. If you want to know what unfolded in all those cockpits flying to North Vietnam or supporting our ground forces in South Vietnam, read this book.
This book is a collection of short stories by pilots and other aircrew. Because each chapter is that man's personal recollections, they take on an interesting variation in vocabulary and writing style. I'm not yet finished, but so far, the book has stories from crews in the USAF, the USN, and the USA.They're memories are enjoyable reading and far too many of those incredibly brave guys are now leaving us.
This is a great book and tells many great stories! Book would greatly benefit from a good grammar and spelling scrub. Otherwise, loved reading these stories!
The short story-structure is nice and entertaining. Some authors return with a second or third story, nice to notice differences in writing, wich makes every story personal. Not only the fast mover flyboys come to pass, reccon and groundcrew also. Very personal and appalling I find the last chapter, a direct transcript of a speech of a WW pilot, who ended up as POW and survived; casual but confronting ! Well done, authors ! Bought the book for my grandson for Christmas.He is loving it.
A very easy read. A pleasant little trip to renaissance Spain and it was nice to sit on the RC side of the diet of Worms for a change.This small book has left me with a real feeling of kinship with St Ig especially as he boohoo-ed through the Eucharist and his weariness with the world of possessions and ambition. Just like the kinship I feel with St Fof A and HH Pope F. A great intro to the life of St I especially for youth, I would say.
This book was a required reading book for my summer reading list for Gonzaga Catholic high school, and to be honest , I thought it was going to be a real snooze fest. Though it took me a while to really get into the book, I found that St. Ignatius had an amazing life that was very interesting to read about. The ending was the real reason why I gave this book a 4 star rating. It talked about the real way to be a Christian, and how to live your life.
A clear and simple account of Ignatius life and times but also firmly based on the autobiography.
I learned many new details in the life of St. Ignatius. He was a rich man who gave everything he had in serve to God. Sounds like Mother Theresa of Calcutta modeled her life after St. Ignatius. God will always provide. Believe in God's plan for your life
