Unpopular and rarely taught aspects of history, but honest facts which are painful but true. half of the book is citations and annotations of empirical evidences.
I too was a media-savvy person and believed the talking points of the American corporate press and was on board with our Middle East policy. However. the brutality of the attack on Gaza last summer compelled me to dig deeper. I could not understand how a people who believe they are God’s chosen people and who suffered unspeakable brutality during the Holocaust, could wreak such death and destruction on a suppressed people with no Army, no Navy and no Air Force and who had nothing at all to do with the Holocaust..I started by Googling words like Belfour Declaration, the Irgun, the Nakba, the Stern Gang, King David Hotel, Plan Dalet, “mowing the lawn†and USS Liberty, to mention just a few. A new narrative started to emerge. It was a narrative that was very discomforting and at odds with what I had so firmly believed.Along the way I came across this book, which succinctly summarized and documented all I had discovered by Googling individual terms.If you have a hard time believing what is written in this book do your own research. The Zionist goal is to seize as much Palestinian land as possible even if it required the extermination of the Palestinians people on that land—Plan Dalet. It appears that Israel was born of death and destruction by Zionist terrorist groups—an inconvenient and discomforting truth.Albert Einstein was so incensed by this travesty, he wrote a letter to the NYT in which he presciently warned us against the Zionist fascists. ( You can read it online.) This is a " must read" book for those interested in understanding why we give Israel over 3 billion dollars a year in military aid..
I couldn’t put this book down. Alison has truly done her research and what she’s found is not good.As a Christian, this book was hard to accept given the sacred status of Jews in the Bible... but the true prophets of old always brought to light Israel’s indiscretions and called her to repent!This book is easy to read but hard to swallow. Very informative and sad to know that so many are deceived...

Weir writes an extremely well documemted account of the US role in the creation of Israel. This is a must read for all Jewish US citizens who want to know more on the topic, especially the roles played by Brandise Frankfurter and Truman, whose actions are not particularly on the public domain.
This book is essentially a history – generally not known – of Zionist bullying of American politicians, and Americans, in order to bring about the state of Israel, covering the period 1889-1949. The vast number of citations and references (covering 136 pages in a book of only 229 pages) indicates that this book is not an anti-Semitic rant, but rather a well researched history of the subject.The author covers not only the bullying of American politicians (Truman, in particular), but also lies presented to the American public about the Zionists’ true agenda. I applaud the author for staying well-clear of suggesting that the “Holocaust†was used for propaganda, but at pg. 30 she hints to the possibility. Obviously, saying more on this subject might have caused her book (like so many others) to be “banned by Amazonâ€. (Can’t find “Debating the Holocaust†by Dr. Thomas Dalton on Amazon? Just Google the title, and take the red pill. Also try “Dissolution of Eastern European Jewry†by W. Sanning – another red pill. See last paragraph of review for “red pill†reference.)As of the time of my review, there are already 525 other reviews. I reviewed the one-star reviews (14%), and found most to be just attacks on the author, with very few offering legitimate criticism of the historical research presented by the author.My only complaint about this book is with respect to the so-called “Endnotes†(109 pages, against only 93 pages of primary text). Most of the (373) “Endnotes†are in fact citations. The author should have separated actual “endnotes†from “citationsâ€, and placed each in separate sections, as trying to read the book and follow the informative material in the “Endnotes†was a major distraction for me.Red pill: To quote from "Morpheus" in the movie "The Matrix": “You take the red pill … and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Remember: all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.†I recommend taking the red pill.

This book is absolutely beautiful! There are pictures in it I've not seen when searching Nasa's website and many are full page shots at roughly 11x11. I am using this as a coffee table book, not only for the pictures, but the information inside. Very please with this purchase!
I bought this for my husband and he loves it. While very informative, you don’t need a degree in the field but can be an astronomy enthusiast and follow along. The pictures are great, high quality. His only complaint is the glossy finish of the paper allows for fingerprints and smudges to easily be seen, and not wipe off!
This is such an educational and beautiful book. Looking at the photos blows me away and reading the content feeds my need to know more. The Hubble is so important to space exploration and it’s neat to have a way to learn a little about it.

I knew I'd see a bunch of five-star reviews for this book. It's predictable that Wilco fans would run out, buy it, and lavish praise it. But there's not a lot of reason for Tweedy to have written this book right now. He's (hopefully) only halfway through his career. And while he's experienced some tough times, they don't fully amount to the completion of a life arc that would justify such a grand statement.Yes, Tweedy is humble, heartfelt, and self-effacing in what he's written. But it's not a very interesting read. And most of the anecdotes aren't vibrant or deep-- they don't fully transport us into the room, the moment. Sure, we get the emotional vibe. But he generally takes the 30,000-foot approach.In contrast, open to a page of Keith Richards' book and you'll see what engrossing is. The eye for small details, the type of sheets on the mattress, the stucco on the walls, the exchanges of dialogue...Tweedy understandably accepted a book deal, and I hope he makes some money. (He has a family to support, which may be the justification for the book.)But overall, this reads like the lengthy extrapolations of insights gleaned from several years of therapy.Where he failed is in writing a book that holds little interest or relevance for someone who isn't a Wilco fan, or doesn't know their music. If you're just a music fan, or an average book reader, this memoir will be...boring.And that's a bummer, because Tweedy is a talented guy.I'l give it three stars for the solid writing skills. But save your money unless you're a Wilco diehard.Sorry to say...
I'm a huge Uncle Tupelo/Son Volt/Wilco fan but I wasn't really anticipating this book in any way until I read an excerpt somewhere online and I enjoyed it so I bought the book.This is not a chronological record of Tweedy's life (though it's roughly chronological), I'd say it's more a collection of thoughts on his life, himself, songwriting, music, relationships, etc. I find his writing style very entertaining - he's not trying to impress us, he's not trying to sugarcoat anything, himself included.You get some good (and sad) stories from his childhood and how music became incredibly important to him. He doesn't go into detail about every album, every song, every tour, or anything like that. The focus drifts among different topics, but not in a bad way at all. He doesn't grind an ax with Jay Farrar - he portrays them both as dysfunctional introverts who connected through music until Jay walked away (completely). I don't find that I need to take sides with either one of them - there is no bad guy.He touches on the sad, tragic figure of Jay Bennett, giving him effusive praise for his musicianship and the collaborative connection they formed early - but also talks about some of the dysfunction in that relationship, as well as addiction issues, that led to them no longer being able to work together anymore.What I really related to was his connection with music growing up. I'm roughly the same age and music (records, concerts, playing/writing/performing) essentially "saved" me in a similar way. He comes across as a relatively normal, likable guy who maybe isn't great with people. Well, who really isn't great with people. He presents himself in an honest, earnest way. He's not trying to convince us of anything, he's not trying to win the Jeff vs. Jay debate, he's not portraying himself as some kind of tortured genius, he's not worried if we'll like him.But I do like him. This book is funny, sad, poignant, inspiring, insightful and fun to read. I've would've been happy if it was twice as long. I connected with many things in here on a personal level. Your experience may be different. I've already started reading it again.
I've just finished this book in a really quick read. Anyone who cares about music, rock n roll will love this honest memoir about the struggles of being a musician, drug addict, and anxiety issues. Tweedy is honest and sincere in all of it. I started the audiobook (read by Tweedy himself) and you can hear the emotion in his voice so don't forget to listen to that too.
Although I am a big fan of Jeff Tweedy’s music, I didn’t expect too much from this book just because I’ve frequently been disappointed by musician’s memoirs. So it is a pleasant surprise that this book is so good.This is a very honest, warts and all, story of his life thus far. A lot of good, juicy tidbits for Wilco fans. It is also surprisingly very funny in parts. I laughed out loud several times (his imagined response to “How about those Cubs?†Is classic.) Jeff Tweedy is a thoughtful, smart guy and this book proves it.

I have no personal connection to Islam or Muhammad, but am inspired by this book and by its author. It taught me not only about Muhammad—the real person who existed and whose message eventually spread to millions around the world—but about how Muhammad is remembered, imagined, contested, and rewritten in the story Islam tells about itself.The structure of it is clever. There are forty chapters, each looking at Muhammad through a different lens: as a prophet, a father, a grandfather, an orphan, a refugee, a statesman. Some chapters take leaps—showing a portrait of Muhammad (something that many people assume is forbidden in Islam), imagining Muhammad as queer, considering whether he could be called a shaman. Another takes on the topic of Muhammad's marriage to A'isha, who is said, in some histories, to have been a pre-teen when the marriage took place, and still another challenges our contemporary understanding of the word jihad. Knight puts himself into the work too, writing about how he grappled with the question of whether a person who died by suicide should be forgiven, about his relationship to prayer, "forbidden" substances and foods, and about how he has interpreted and learned from other religious scholars.In my university humanities courses there was often a book on the syllabus that wasn’t a straight academic textbook—the “cool smart†book written for a wider audience, which was fun to read but also permanently changed my worldview. I would have loved to have encountered this book as a college student, and in fact Michael Knight, who is a professor of religious studies, reveals in the book that he wrote it after looking around for the perfect textbook to use in his "intro to Islam" courses and not finding anything that fit his vision. I love that he wrote the book that he wanted to see exist in the world.There's a lot of misinformation and unexamined assumptions about Islam in culture today, and its practitioners are the target of discriminatory policies. I think this primer/textbook/memoir/record of devotion and faith could add so much to our public conversation about Islam. I loved living inside the continually questioning, daring, humble, and unique mind of Michael Muhammad Knight.
This book was so, so important for me to read. I feel it's important to learn about Muhammad, as prophet, as father, as inspiration, and more in these 40 reflections, and Michael Muhammad Knight's book allowed me to learn so much more than I had previously been exposed to. Cannot recommend this book (and the gorgeous, GORGEOUS cover) enough!

Best book on leading smalls groups. Unbelievably comprehensive; covering just about every topic and issue you could possibly ever think of or run into. Highly recommended.
This book explains how to define a purpose for forming a small group. It explains how a divorce recovery small group is different from a Bible Study small group. There are suggestions on how to deal with an overly talkative member. There are suggestions on how to deal with one person constantly interrupting other members while they are talking. There are suggests on how to get the discussion back on topic after it has drifted off on a tangent. It shows how to develop ground rules for the group. The steps are simple and practical.
Authors go into detail regarding most every aspect a small group leader could experience. They use their personal experiences in the groups they have led to illustrate key points and concepts.I tried reading another book on small groups by a different author, and could not finish it. Reading was an endurance, dull and textbooky. Cloud's resource is the one to read for a rookie small group leader like me.
This 2003 book has been updated and simplified by Cloud, Townsend and Bill Donahue in a video series and book by the same title. This older text does contain insights not included in t he newer edition, but the newer edition is better organized for use by a small group trying to strengthen itself.
This book is a good blend of psychology and Bible. I have long been a fan of Townsend and Cloud and was eager to get this book. It did not disappoint. They make psychological principles accessible to the average Joe and apply them in the context of small group life. Very helpful. Cloud/Townsend are the best when it comes to small group work. They give you the model to be a part of a group, to lead one, and what to red flag. Excellent book that will help one grow into the person God intended you to be - complete!
I love anything by Henry Cloud. This book was no exception. I think he nails the problem right on the head. We have too many groups out there that are great places to attend but many of them don't demand change from the members. (This leaves them empty and then they go back to their old patterns) The other type of groups may offer strong biblical truth but perhaps in such a "religious" way that they don't allow room for transparency and honesty from their members. (this can breed hipocracy from the few who will even bother to return!)Henry and John explain how to find balance and they also offer over 2 dozen chapters on line-by-line issues in groups and how to address them. Henry Cloud hits it out of the park again with this book. Leading a small group is not for the faint of heart. It requires hard work, dedication and continued prayer. It also should require this excellent resource if you want to do it well.

Originally i bought this book based off the simple fact she was Muslim and that is enough to get my support. Then i read it and i couldn't believe how much it home for me. I felt like she was telling my story through Layla and Malik. It was touching to read this muslim fiction and feel so close to it. It is one of the best books i have read so far and i suggest you guys start one clicking today!! I am an avid reader of all genres. My expectations of this author was high based off of the good writing of her urban fiction stories. Author Zara J. met my expectations and has earned my high anticipation for what she has to offer in the future. The story made me laugh, frown, shake my head, and relate to certain issues. I guess if I had to end this review with two words, it would be, MORE Please!
Subhan'Allah, Dowry Divas was a fantastic read! I loved following these three women in their quests for love. Honest and entertaining, Dowry Divas takes one through all of the highs and lows of looking for and being in a relationship. the plot twists made me gasp, the honest moments made me laugh, and the beautiful moments made my heart smile. I recommend this book for anyone looking for a entertaining and heartwarming read.
It has everything I was looking for. Real Life drama, Romance, marriage woes, and pace. I really enjoyed Malik and Layla, Talia's ending is very realistic, and Nadia ending was just beautiful. At first I didn't like the character separation it eventually appreciated it since each character had a lot going on in their worlds.

There were not enough riveting events. I am an avid reader, and a really good read makes me feel like I have had an experience.
